      -Bigamy case against Richard

      Exeter Times,14 April,1892

      The adjurned bigamy case was concluded at Crediton on Tuesday,when sufficient evidence was adduced against the prisoner Waistell to commit him to Goderich for trial .Rev.Mr.Clement,President of the London Conference was in this village on Tuesday to give evidence in the Waistell bigamy case as his having married Richard Waistell and Mrs. Ann Cobleigh in Exeter at the James Street Parsonnage in march 1888.
      Census: 1871, Canada Census shows both he and Susannah living in McGillivray Township. Named spelled 'Westeel' Agricultural Schedules record the farm as 50 acres with 25 acres improved 1 acre pasture and 1/4 acre garden/orchard..Of crops 2 acres are in wheat with 8 bushels of spring wheat,and 15 bushels of fall wheat,15 bushels peas,30 bushels of oat,1/4 acre of potatoes yielding 15 bushels.5 acres are in hay yieding 4 tons .The garden/orchard yielded 12 bushels of apples.

      1883-Later they both owned land in Custer Michigan as well : The 1883 directory of Mason County, Michigan shows Richard Waistell, farmer, owning 40 acres ( north eastern quarter section33) Apparently Richard had the south half and Susannah the north half-twenty acres ( each see land records, courthouse,Custer MI ) Each owned 20 adjoining acres. (They both bought the land in 1882.Nov.24)
      1893 -However on March 18,1893 Richard sells his 20 acres.The deed shows Richard as unmarried (quick claim)
      1897 -On November 16,1897 Susanna sells 19 acres for $700.00 dollars keeping 1 acre presumably for her residence.
      - The property is a couple of concessions south of Riverside Cemetery fronting on Custer and Wilson Road.

      Also owned property in Clandeboye at time of his death in 1906 lot 21, range 2.

      The 1900 census USA for Ludington City michigan shows Susannah working as a servant working in the Hutchins household,divorced,with no children.
      The 1901 canadian census for Clandeboye Biddulph township ,middlesex county shows Richard age 77,married,living with the Morley family.While he is shown as head of the household,there is no wife and the other members are his nieces family.( Ann Cobleigh died in 1896)
      1913-On October 1913 Susanah sells 1 acre for 1$ but retains a right of possession for her natural life. The sale was to Charles Ressequie ,her son in law and was done shortly before her death and was probably done for estate records.
