  • Notes
    • Information provided orally by Eileen Hutchison to John Cowan Oct 20, 1997. He had genetic cataracts as a baby. He adopted children.

Of Wauwatosa, Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the time of his sister's (Helen Thatcher) death in 2009

FindAGrave MEMORIAL ID 85227090 shows his intended burial marker at Forest Home Cemetery with his parents and wife.

John Cowan called him March 6, 2019 and made the following notes from the conversation. He was quite lucid and is 89 years old.

I identified myself as Mary Greig's son and he recalled meeting her when he visited Toronto (during the war) for Christmas. He believes he stayed with Aunt Belle Jeffrey Greig, whom he recalled, but maybe it was Uncle Jack Jeffrey they stayed with. He also recalled a surprise visit his family made to Uncle Jack at his Stoney Lake cottage in Ontario. Fraser met Uncle Jack's hired hand (the name Norman did not ring a bell) on shore at the post office and told him he wished to see his brother. Jack then came over in the big Chris Craft to get them.

He said he did not know of any of the family who were interested in family history stuff. He did not know about Andrew Jeffrey and all that because there was not much cross border info flow.

His wife was in hospice care 10 years ago but did not die, so got put out. They found a multi-level retirement facilty where she could get her care while he lived in an independent living apartment. She died shortly after they moved there, and he is still there. I did not delve into details about his health, but he said he has given up his work as a docent at the zoo across the street, since he has deteriorated physically. While working he was a volunteer at the zoo and carried on in retirement.

He graduated from U of Michigan in mechanical engineering with an Industrial option. He had detached retinas in both eyes and lost sight on one completely, but a doctor in Boston preserved the other, somehow. After a job in some small company he joined his father's (and Uncle Jack's) Allis Chalmers back in Milwaukee working in the computing area. He got laid off there so joined Phillips in data processing doing software and system management for payroll functions for the whole North American Phillips. He retired after 13 years there. He said he spent about the same amount of time at A-C.
