    Notes:

In researching at the LDS Family History Centre in Trenton, I found record of a Deborah Davis with parents named William and Jane. These parental first names
seem to fit as John and Deborah named their oldest son William and their first daughter Jane.
It is also interesting to note that the surname DAVIS is also listed as DAVIES..

Deborah appears on the 1842 Census for Percy Township - Lot 20 on Concession 5.
There were two (2) married Females - Deborah, and maybe her daughter Margurete - not sure.
Also there were two (2) single males - age 18 to 21. They would be Gilbert and Francis.
There is one (1) male under the age of 5 - name unknown at this time.
Also the Cenus records that Deborah had been in Canada for 20 years (1842 -20 = 1822).
According to the Land Office Records, Deborah purchased the South Half of Lot 5 from William Forsyth and John B Forsyth on October 31,1844.
Deborah then sold the South Half to her son Gilbert on March 18,1848.

  2. 19.  LAWRENCE GOODMURPHY Descendancy chart to this point (11.DEBORAH3, 2.William2, 1.Richard1) was born on 14 Feb 1806 in Wexford, Ireland; died on 17 Dec 1891 in Wellington, Hillier Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

Lawrence arrived in Canada about August 1822 with his parents. The family had stopped at Kingston, Ontario , and there he was apprenticed to a man named Carl, to become a shoemaker.
The arrangement stipulated that Lawrence would apprentice for three (3) years, then when he was finished, he was to get a suit of clothes and some money.

Meanwhile his parents and siblings were to have meandered along towards the west, arriving at Smokeville (now Wellington).
The inhabitants at that time were few and far between, but just the same, they had two hotels where whiskey was sold.

Lawrence obviously completed his apprencticeship and headed for Wellington three years later. in 1825 or 1826 he met a Lydia Garratt at a Suree at the Sandbanks, and they were married sometime soon-after.
The Garratts were Quakers who had originated from Belfast and had emigrated to Upper New York State, then crossed over to Canada.

I found Lawrence on the 1840 Census for Murray Township. The Cenus records that there were a total of 7 in the family, all Quakers.
There were four (4) male children, two (2) adults, plus another female over 16 (unknown).
Next door was a Townsend Garratt and family, and a Thmas Garratt and family. Could be siblings of Lydia??

Lawrence took up the Quaker relgion for his family and set up a shoemaking shop in Wellington.
The 1851 Census has the family residing on Lot 11 of the 3rd Concession - Military Tract in Hallowell Twp - a farm made up of 114 acres.

The first two children, Sarah Ann and Rachel Ann were twins and died at birth according to Eliza Cooper.

Townsend and Thomas died of TB.

On Nov 28/1851,Lawrence purchased the North Half of Lot 11 on Conc 3 MT, from Thomas Waring and wife.
On April 28, 1864 Lawrence acuired 1/4 acre of Lot 1, Concession 1 in Hillier Twp, from Rufus Wilder.
On March 8, 1867 he sold the West Half (50 acres of his Hallowell Twp property) to his son Wm Davis, and on April 22, 1867 sold the Eest Half (other 50 acres) to his son Solomon.
On April 28, 1867 Lawrence sold the 1/4 acre on Lot 1 to his son John.

Solomon acquired 70 acres of Lot 1, Conc. 1, in Hillier Twp, on November 5, 1872 from Silas Reynolds & Charlotte Blakely.

Laurence and Lydia were still living at the time of the 1891 Census and lived on the farm at Lot 1 with Solomon and his wife Lydia Morriah Hutchinson.
Apparently Lydia was blind by 83 years of age (1889).

According to the Register of Births, Deaths, Marriages kept by Franklin Jones, the clerk for Hillier Twp., Lawrence and Lydia were registered as dying in the 1st Half of 1892.
An examination of the Death Register of the Ontario Archives has given me the exact dates.
Lawrence died on December 17, 1891, see record # 01538192, and Lydia died on November 15, 1891, see record # 01538292. Lawrence died of paralysis, and Lydia died of old age.

It is not know where they are buried but it is presumed to be in Wellington .

Richard died in May 1895, the cause listed as old age.

Richard and Abigail and family then moved to a farm that runs north from Hwy 33(east of Wellington) to the Gilead Road.
Richard and his family lived on the 1st Concession - Lot 9F in Hallowell Twp. The farm consisted of 105 acres - East Half of Lot 9F.
The 1851 Census lists their religion as Church of England, later Census list them as Universalists.
Richard belonged to Order of Freemasons and it is important to note that he went under the surname MURPHY as opposed to Goodmurphy !!!
All of the Census Records for Richard and Abigail and their children carry the surname of Murphy.
I am not sure if this use of "Murphy" was deliberate, or just easier than Goodmurphy.
Richard's will, however, has his name as Richard Good Murphy, also Abigail is named as Good Murphy, as are his sons Richard and Josiah, who were executors.
Also elswehere in the Will, the surname of Goodmurphy is used.
He left some of his estate to his daughters - Sarah Hutchins, Deborah Bartlett, and Pheoba McDonald.

Davis married later in life at the age of 48, with his wife Pheobe being only 16 at the time.

On November 3, 1859, Davis (bought or sold) Lot 66 West Half on the 5th Concession of Hillier Twp.

In 1861 Davis was living on Lot 79 on the 2nd Concession of Hillierl Twp, a lot consisting of 66 acres. His name does not appear on the Land Record. He was probably a renter!!

In 1863, had property at Lot 2 EH on Conc 2 in Hallowell Twp. He later moved to Lot 7 EH.
By 1878, Davis was living at Lot 7 East Half - Conc, 2 - Hallowelll Twp, a lot consisting of 100 acres.
At some point in time, Davis acquired the following property in Sophiasburg Township: Lot 56, all, 1st Conc. = 200 acres

Davis willed the property at Lot 7 E 1/2 - Conc 2, Hallowell Twp to his sons Albert and Arthur.
The Lot 56 property in Sophiasburg Twp was willed to his daughters Charlotte and Abigail. Charlotte received the North Half, Abigail the South Half.

Davis and Pheobe Ann are both buried in the Wellington Village Cemetery.
Also buried in Wellington Cemetery, are Richard, Abigail, Alice May, Hiram, and Arthur.
The first four of these children all died in their youth - cause unknown at this time. Arthur lived till the age of 74.

The whereabouts of Charlotte, Deborah, and Albert are unknown at this time.

DAVIS married PHEOBE ANN REYNOLDS on 26 Oct 1861 in Hillier Township, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. PHEOBE (daughter of SILAS (CYRUS) REYNOLDS and CHARLOTTE BLAKELY) was born on 20 Jun 1844 in Hillier, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada; died on 2 Mar 1920 in Wellington, Hillier Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. 6. 23.  THOMAS GOOD MURPHY Descendancy chart to this point (11.DEBORAH3, 2.William2, 1.Richard1) was born about 28 Jul 1814 in Wexford, Ireland; died on 2 Sep 1898 in Brighton, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

Thomas Good Murphy is buried in the Waite Cemetery on Telephone Road, west of Brighton, Ontario.

According to Eliza Cooper (daughter of Lawrence), her uncle Thomas was quite wealthy, and one of the sons was well educated and taught at the Wellington School (circa 1870 or thereabouts).
I have learned that his great-grandson - Louis Carrol Murphy (1902-1971) was a Teacher. An L.C. Murphy is mentioned as a teacher at Wellington.

Thomas was married by the Rev. J.C. Davidson at the Methodist Church in Picton, Ontario to Martha Susan Bull.
The witnesses were Charles H. Bull & wife Lydia Saretta Converse (brother to the bride). At the time of marriage, Thomas and his bride-to-be were living in Hallowell Twp.

It is believed that Thomas went searching for property in Northumberland County in 1839 as Martha's parents had earlier migrated there in the previous decade.
Martha's three youngest brothers - Charles Henry, Amos Jr., and John moved to Warkworth and bought adjoining farms on or around 1839.

The 1842 Census for Percy Twp lists a Thomas G. Murphy as residing at Lot 12 on Concession 2. The Land Records show that Thomas purchased the South part of Lot 12 on October 28, 1839 from Stephen & John Dingman, the property consisting of 100 acres. This property is near the town of Warkworth.
Thomas is listed at this location through th 1842, 1848, 1850, and 1851 Census for Percy Twp. Thomas sold the property on October 17, 1853 to Ephriam Doolittle and he moved to Cramahe Township.

It is interesting to note that Thomas' mother Deborah was living in Percy Twp, near Warkworth from 1842 to 1849 !!!

Thomas purchased Lot 12 - Conc. 4 - Cramahe Twp in 1853 from the Waite Family.
This property consisted of 200 acres. Eventually he acquired the following properties in Cramahe Twp:
    Conc. 5 - Lot 22 - 200 acres
    Conc. 2 - Lot 12 - 100 acres

The following words are taken from a letter written by Irene Murphy, Granddaughter of Amos & Sarah Murphy - Great-Grandaughter of Thomas) in September 1873:
" Thomas G. Murphy walked 45 miles from Prince Edward County to take up land near Warkworth. It was too far from the front, so he came down and bought land from the Waite Family (about 1853) and settled there near Brighton. That was too far back for Thomas, so he bought land and built where the "brick house" is. This house was built about 1873 or thereabouts. That was still too far from the front for him, so he bought the house in Brighton (believe that he enjoyed it very much until they got too old to look after and he went back to the country)."

Another piece of information that was included in a letter written by Irene Murphy, is that the initial "G" in Thomas name, stood for Good. He apparently decided to revert his surname back to Murphy from Goodmurphy, but kept the "Good"' through his middle initial --- Thomas G. Murphy !!!

    Notes:

Jane Goodmurphy was the first daughter of John G. Murphy and Deborah Davis.

I believe she is named after her maternal grandmother, Jane Sparrow Davis.

According to Eliza Cooper, Jane married for her 1st husband an Augustus and had two sons, one named James and one named John.

Her 2nd husband was a Crandall and they had no issue.

I have been unable to find any record of Jane or her marriages in the County Censuses for 1851 through 1891.

The 1861 Census for Cramahe Twp records a John and Jane Crandel, aged 66 and 48, respectively. The Census lists children - Parmer age 22, Sarah age 18,
John Smith age 18, John Crandel age 25, wife Abigail age 24, son James age 1.

The 1871 Census finds a Jane Crandell living with her son John G Augustus Wallace, age 31 , born abt 1840, and his wife Mary L Wallace, age 34 , born abt 1843.
    Jane is listed as Widowed.
The 1881 Census for Brighton Village has a Jane Crandel aged 65 years, and widowed, and born in Ireland.
She is still living with her son John G.A. Wallace, his wife Mary L., and their sons George H., age 9, and James G., age 4.

  8. 25.  MARGURETE EMILY GOODMURPHY Descendancy chart to this point (11.DEBORAH3, 2.William2, 1.Richard1) was born about 1817 in Wexford, Ireland; died on 15 Oct 1885 in Seymour Twp Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

The 1851 Census for Ameliasburg Twp, lists a Margaret Murphy married to a Robert Carnrike.
Records show that they were married on September 3/1839 by Rev, Cyrus R. Allison.
    Religion was Wesleyan Methodist.
Witnesses at the marriage were John Carnrike and Simon DeLong.

Robert and Margaret moved to Seymour Township in Northumberland County sometime after 1851.
Their sons John Wesley and Andrew Spencer are found in Seymour Twp in the 1891 Census.
It is important to note that the surname was changed from CARNRIKE to CARNRITE at some time.
Andrew Spencer is buried under the surname CARNRITE.
John Wesley's son, James A. is buried under the surname CARNRITE.
There are surviving descendants of James A. Carnrite living in Peterborough in 1996.

The Carnrike family name still exists in the Consecon area today.
Douglas Carnrike, a descendant of Jacob Carnrike, lives In Consecon.

MARGURETE married Robert CARNRIKE on 18 Sep 1839 in Hallowell Township. Robert (son of George CARNRIKE and Charity DOE-CARNRIKE) was born in 1819 in Ontario, Canada; died on 2 Jan 1897 in Seymour Twp Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  9. 26.  GILBERT GOODMURPHY Descendancy chart to this point (11.DEBORAH3, 2.William2, 1.Richard1) was born about 1824 in Wellington, Hillier Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada; died on 26 Oct 1878 in Demorestville, Sophiasburgh Twp, Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

Guessing that Gilbert was born in Wellington, Ontario, if not, could have been born in Kingston, Ontario.

In 1842, Gilbert was living in Percy Twp at Lot 20 (South Half) on the 5 Concession with his mother Deborah and his younger brother, Francis.

Deborah purchased this property from William Forsyth & J.B. Forsyth on October 21, 1884, but obviously Deborah and her sons had moved there in 1842.

Deborah sold the property to Gilbert on March 18, 1848. The 1848 Census has Gilbert listed as the residing owner of this Lot, residing there with his wife (no name given), along with a widow born in Ireland (obviously his mother) and another young male (obviously his younger brother Francis).
One could presume that Deborah had the foresight to pass ownership to Gilbert in 1848 as it is believed she died the following year.

Gilbert is listed at Lot 20 in the 1850, 1851 and 1861 Censuses for Percy Twp.

The 1851 Census lists a Catherine as the wife of Gilbert.
The 1861 Census lists a Polly as the wife of Gilbert, and Eliza recorded in her Genealogy, that Gilbert married a Polly Jones.

On December 26, 1863 he sold the property to James Greenley.

The 1871 Census for Hillier Twp lists a Gilbert Murphy as residing on the 5th Concession - Lot 66H - 80 acres. This Gilbert is married to a Mary and had four daughters.
It may be that Mary and Polly are the same person - just the way it was recorded.
It is believed that Gilbert must have moved back to Prince Edward County after selling his Percy Twp property in late 1863.

Lot 67, 5th Concession of Hillier Twp, runs norrh and south of Burr Road, east closer to Hwy 62 at Crofton.
Just east of Gilbert, also on Lot 67 is Benjamin Pine. Benjamin's son Sylvester Pine married Deborah Goodmurphy.

The 1881 Census for Hillier Twp lists an Anna Murphy, age 50, and widowed, with a daughter Melissa, age 10.

The Ontario Archives lists Gilbert Murphy as dying on October 27, 1878 suddenly from the effects of intemperance !!!
The petetion from his widow has his name as GILBERT GOODMURPHY and her name as MARY GOODMURPHY.
He died leaving no Will or Last Testament. His estate valued at $700.00 was awarded to his lawful widow Mary Goodmurphy.
It is possible that Catherine, Polly, and Mary are all the same person. Sometimes people had a common name that they were called by, and that may be what the Census taker wrote down.

Melissa is buried in the Wellington Village Cemetery alongs with her parents,
    Gilbert and Mary !!!

The oldest daughter, Deborah Jane, married Sylvester Pine. She is buried in the McFaul Cemetery on County Road 1, which is just west of the junction of County Road 1 and Town Line Road.

GILBERT married Mary Polly Anna JONES before 1850. Mary (daughter of Lewis JONES and Lavina Mary CROSS) was born in 1829 in Ontario, Canada; died on 14 May 1897 in Saginaw, Saginaw, Michigan, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  10. 27.  FRANCIS GOODMURPHY Descendancy chart to this point (11.DEBORAH3, 2.William2, 1.Richard1) was born on 1 Nov 1825 in Wellington, Hillier Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada; died on 16 Jul 1896 in Consecon, Ameliasburgh Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

Guessing that Francis was born in Wellington, Ontario.

In 1842, Francis was living in Percy Twp with his mother. See notes on Gilbert Murphy.

The 1850 Census has Francis residing at Lot 20 - North Half, on Conc. 5, with his wife and two daughters.
The Land Records show that Francis purchased this property from J.B. Forsyth on January 9, 1852.
Francis is still there for the 1851 Census, but is not for the 1861 Census.
The Land Records show that Francis sold his property to Jarvis Striker on March 21, 1866.
In the meantime, he had purchased Lot 98 West Half on the 3rd Concession in Ameliasburg Twp, on May 1, 1860, from a Charles Avery - 100 acres.

The 1861 Census for Ameliasburg Twp lists a Francis Goodmurphy on the 3rd Concession - Lots 97 and 98F. The Land Records show that Francis was
    granted 14 1/4 acres of Lot 97 on January 8, 1868.

The Marriage Notice, shows that Francis Murphy of Percy Twp, married an Angeline McLean of Sidney Twp, on July 27, 1847, and they were married
    by the Rev. Wm. Bird.

Francis and his wife Angeline are listed as Wesleyan Methodists and they are buried in Salem Cemetery along with five of their children - Deborah,
Sarah Margarey, Emilia Ann, John Davis, and Martha H. Caroline M. is buried with her husband in Albury Cemetery.

Francis prepared his Will on Feb 10, 1893 and in it he left his house and its contents to his wife. He also left her his property - Lot 98 West Half South 60 acres
and Lot 97 West Half South 15 acres and undivided half of 80 acres of woodlland.

Francis died at the age of 70 years and 9 months of Apoplexy (Stroke) after a one week illlness.

The youngest son, Styllman, is buried in Wellington Village Cemetery, infant death.

FRANCIS married Angeline MCLEAN on 27 Jul 1847. Angeline was born on 18 Feb 1830 in Trenton, Sidney Twp, Hastings County,Ontario,Canada; died on 4 Aug 1915 in Consecon, Ameliasburgh Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
