He was lost when his B-17 went down over the North Sea, on January 1, 1945. It was during the Battle of the Bulge, and it was his birthday. His name is listed at a Military Cemetery in Belgium. He never married.

He was a Monroe County, Florida Deputy Sheriff for 36 years. He died in Key West, Florida on March 19, 2003. He was cremated and buried at sea in Hawks Channel near the Florida Keys. He was married to Pilar Elena Diaz, and had three children. All of his children are still living. (June 2003)
