    Beth Thompson was a nurse and never married. She lived in Long Island. Another of those
    Thompsons lived in New Jersey and their
    funeral was in Short Hills, which kind of impressed me, as that's one of those too-too suburbs. Another Thompson cousin lived in the mid-Hudson Valley and my mother looked her up on one visit.

    My grandmother Isabel Thompson and her two older sisters, Beth and Alice, got into a car in London and drove across Canada to the West. They did jobs along the way as stenographers or whatever for money.
    Alice also settled in the West of Canada, although I guess she was married in Sweden. Her husband
    was from Sweden and they had no children. The story has always been that they made and lost several fortunes. She was the family historian. She was your grandmother's cousin. I met her a few times.

    It was a copy of Alice's document that led me to Bond Head, Ontario, where stands the tombstone of the original Thomas Thompson and his wife. Interestingly, I doubt if this stone is more than 40 or 50 years old - I figure Alice probably had the old one replaced. I've got a photo somewhere...
    I actually remember visiting Alice at her home along the highway in Williams Lake, BC, as a small child. What I remember best is her empty swimming pool!
    As you may be aware, Alice & Paul were great travelers. Turns out they took a ton of pictures and copious notes of their travels. I have these photos and notes - probably a dozen of those Kodak carousels of black & white slides!

    Alice married Paul JORGENSEN in 1936 in Malmo, Sweden. Paul was born in in Sweden; died in May 1962. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    The Thompsons: My grandmother Isabel Thompson and her two older sisters, Beth and Alice, got

    stenographers or whatever for money. My grandmother met her husband at Bulman's Ranch in the Okanagan Valley of BC. That's where they settled and my mother and her siblings were born and raised.
    I always thought my grandmother's and Alice's story of working their way across Canada was
    romantic and exciting. Imagine three sisters on their own in the 1920s. I've always imagined George Jacobs as being another kind of romantic adventurer type.

    Per Jim Johnson 2-25-02:
    Apparently Grandma Buffum (Isabella Thompson) did a radio show in Vernon at one time. I only heard that when she died and I was at my aunt's house in Victoria and a guy came over to get info for her eulogy.
    Grandma had an affected accent that was not normal Canadian. It was a put-on British accent, and in her defense I would point out that, after all, her mother had been around the Empire, and her grandfather was born and raised in Britain.

    Isabella married Ernest Thomas BUFFUM on 23 Dec 1925 in Kelowna, British Columbia. Ernest (son of Thomas H. TURNBULL and Ada Elvira HARRIS, son of Albert Luther BUFFUM and Ada Elvira HARRIS) was born on 27 May 1901 in Weare, New Hampshire; died on 16 Apr 1983 in Victoria, British Columbia.     Francyl Sue. I met her in NYC years ago, and I cannot remember just when. Her mother, Jean, was killed in an auto accident. At one time she could have been raised by Alice and Paul. I think Sue spent some time with Alice and was included in her will, even though Sue did not write. She did not write anyone. Grant Thompson knew her as children. I heard some of the horror stories regarding her dad's second marriage, to Victoria, who was the epitome of rotten step-mothers. Sue married ..... and had two children. I believe she lived near Chicago. She married David Dauley. Sue was a nurse who worked with autistic children. She was a heavy smoker.

    When Uncle Bob Thompson's first wife was killed in an accident in - where? -Canada -Alice tried to get Bob to let her raise Francyl Sue. Well, the gods were watching and it did not work out. I met Francyl Sue in NYC many years ago... with Aunt Beth Thompson. Sue smoked up a storm. Kept in touch with very little since she hated to write letters, She was an RN working with autistic children. Had her son with her first marriage and a daughter by Dauly.
