    sailed on the ship "Talbot," which left England in March 1630 and after three months at sea landed at Charlestown (North Boston, MA) 2 July 1630. Also on this ship was Anna Pettit who was probably daughter of Henri Pettit; and John Pettit born about 1608 in England; may be related to Thomas Pettit.
    Others say that, "with brother John", Thomas Pettit signed the Donegan Charter in 1688
    [should be 1686] whereby the city of New York was passed by the Dutch to Britain
    with Thomas Don(e)gan, Earl of Limerick, the Governor of New York State from 1684-1688

    Notes:

    His name appears on the Dongan Charter of 1686. He was a Quaker. Soon after that date he removed to Hopewell township, then Hunterdon county, and obtained the grant of a tract of land on the Delaware near the mouth of the Assunpink. He died in 1718, leaving a widow Mary, and children: Moses, Judith, Nathaniel, Elias, Jane, Jonathan and John.

    Nathaniel's name is on the Charter from Governor Dongan, 25 Novermber 1686, with his sons Nathaniel, Moses and John. In 1696 he removed to Hopewell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, settled at the Falls of the Delaware, and in 1696 bought 200 acres from John Wilsford, Sr. and Jr., who had bought it in 1685 from Mahlon Stacy and Peter Fretwell. In 1791 Nathaniel Pettit was Collector of Hopewell Township. In 1711 he granted 100 acres in Amwell to his son Elias. In 1718 with his three sons, Elias, Jonathon and Nathaniel(who married Elizabeth Heath) he purchased a plantation, in all 1400 acres of land, at Trenton near the Assanpink Creek, including the ground where the New Jersey State Capitol now stands. Petty's Run was named for him. Nathaniel Pettit died before 25 June 1718 in Hopewell Township, New Jersey aged 73. His Will, dated 13 March 1715 was probated at Burlington, NJ 25 June 1718 and filed also in New York 9 July 1719. His son Jonathon was Executor; Inventory dated 24 June 1718.

    The Moores and the Nelles families never connected south of the 49th parallel. They lived 200 miles apart

    On May 15, 1753 Nathaniel Pettit [Jr.=Eliz Heath], Elias, and Jonathan were brothers named in the will of
    Mary (Pettit) Moore Watkinson of the city of Burlington, New Jersey. This will was proved Feb. 2, 1754

    On May 15, 1753 Nathaniel Pettit [Jr.=Eliz Heath] was named in the will of his sister, Mary (Pettit) Moore Watkinson of the city of Burlington, New Jersey. This will was proved Feb. 2, 1754

    Nathaniel PETTIT was born 1676 in Newtown ( now Elmhurst) Queens Co., Long Island, NY, and died 1768 in Hunterdon, NJ

    His father had purchased land at Trenton in 1695. By 1723 Nathaniel was listed as a carpenter of Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, which indicates that he made a move from the vicinity of Trenton to Amwell Township between 1719 and 1723. By 1735 and with the purchase of 100 acres the Pettit homestead was probably in Holland Township (Spring Mills) or Alexandria Township of Hunterdon County. By 1749 sons of Nathaniel Pettit began moving north to Sussex County. 30 year old Thomas Pettit died
    in Newton, Sussex, NJ in 1758.

    Unlike his Quaker parents Nathaniel Jr started as a Quaker but about 1724 helped to found St Andrews Episcopal at Ringoes, (which before 1776 moved to Lambertville NJ.)
