  1. 1.  Samuel MCCUTCHEON, .2 was born in 1772 in Grey Abbey, County Down, Ireland; died in May 1828 in Welland, Lincoln Co., Ontario.

    UCLPetition3, 1824. To Lieut. Governor Peregrine Maitland.
    Petition of Hugh McCutcheon, of the Town of York, Yeoman.
    Your petitioner is a native of the Parish of Bangor, County Down, Ireland, from whence he imported to Quebec in April last [1823], with a wife & 4 children, has taken the Oath of Allegiance and received no land from the Crown.
    Your petitioner is of the ability & desirous to settle on & improve a lot of 200 Acres of the waste lands.

    Wherefore your petitioner humbly prays your Excellency will grant him 200 acres of the waste land and praying of fees.
    Your petitioner will ever part, Signed, Samuel McCutcheon., York, 18 February, 1824.
    Your petitioner brought out several Certificates but lost them on Board the Steam Boat lately General [Mem Jenbge?]
    Note: Their ship sunk on the St. Lawrence River Rapids near Morrisburg, Ontario.

    . Province of Upper Canada I certify that Samuel McCutcheon, Native of Ireland hath taken & subscribed the Oath of Allegiance required in the Home District [Toronto], this 17th day of February, 1824. Signed, Grant Power, Council.
    . Envelope: Gov. Offices, 18th Feb, 1824. The subject is requested to report here here for the information of the Honorable Council. Signed, M Johnson.
    I do not find hat the petitioner has received any lands or Order for land. Jno. Ridout, Survey Office.
    In Council, 18 Feb., 1824, Recommended, Order issued 19th Feby, 1824.
