Note1: At the time this area was called Eglinton, (Toronto), York Twp., York Co., Ontario. Eglinton Ave. is a bit of a stretch, being a few miles distant. The post office was at Eglinton. Previously this area running on both sides of Yonge Street was called Newtonbrook; later called Willowdale in North York, today it is a northern area in the city of Toronto.

. My Enumeration Travel Extended from lot 6, on the East Side of Yonge Street* to the Town Line of Markham, First & second concessions of York Twp. In which there are 1 brick Primitive Methodist Church, acc. about 400 people; 1 English [Anglican] brick church, acc. 500; 1 Episcopal Methodist Church, brick, acc. 400; 1 Wesleyan Methodist Church, brick, acc 800, beside 2 schoolhouses. 3 flour mills capable of grinding a large amount of grain; 5 sawmill worked by water & one steam worked.
There are 2 stores, 3 taverns, land is generally good, most people are engaged in agricultural pursuits, land is heavy clay & good for wheat except for wheat owing to the midge the last few years, in many cases a spring crop failure. Crops last summer was much in grieved by a severe hailstones literally those having oats before they were reaped. Signed, Robt. James Jr., Enumerator.
