Situated on the North East Coast port town of Lossiemouth is situated on the Moray Firth. Once a popular spa town in Victorian days, it continues to be known as the "Riviera of the North" with its mild dry climate influenced by the Gulf Stream.

Drainie Old Parish Church was built in the mid 17th century & surrounded by a small graveyard. It was located on flat land near Lossiemouth but has been completely demolished, largely due to the fact that it was located close to where the runway of Lossiemouth Royal Airfare. A storm in the early 1950s apparently led to the collapse of the belfry & east gable & was then completely demolished, apart from some footings. These too have now been removed, leaving no surface remains of the church.

Uncle Alexander Bower, (1835-1901), brother of Barbara Bower, in 1875 live for some time at Minto Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario. Capt. Alex Bowers of Morayshire, Scotland got married in the same place as iIn 1875 his niece Elizabeth, who (Elizabeth McKeddie of Minto who was one of the witnesses.

AIKEN, Muriel Jean - Peacefully with family holding her hand at Mapleview Nursing Home in Owen Sound Friday morning January 4, 2013. Muriel Aiken (nee Walker) of Allenford in her 88th year. Beloved wife of Ross Aiken for 62 years. Loved mother of Murray (Debbie) & Merri Lynn (Lonnie) all of Allenford. Lovingly remembered by her 6 grandchildren; Angela (Lee Gowan), Steven (friend Kaeli Grahlman), Rebecca (Damian Pope), Jessica (Thai Lim), Rosalynn & Bradley and 1 great-grandson Jaden.
Dear sister of Ruth McLeod of London & Gerald Walker of Allenford. Dear sister-in-law of Len (Betty) Aiken of Owen Sound. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Predeceased by 2 sons; Bradley Ross and Steven Wesley,
parents; Robert & Carrie Walker, brother Alan Walker & sister Mary Merriam. Muriel will be greatly missed.
She was a business owner, long time member of Allenford United Church & active in her community, former teacher, Bruce County Board of Education Trustee, UCW member & volunteer for several groups. Muriel's kindness & generosity will be well remembered by friends and family alike. Friends may call at the DOWNS AND SON FUNERAL HOME Hepworth Sunday January 13th. A Funeral Tribute Service to honor Muriel's life will be conducted from Zion Amabel United Church, Sauble Beach, Monday morning January 14th at 11:00 am. Spring interment Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara.
