in Lancaster PA, ca 1755, Eva Catherine Flure (Flora). They made their home in
Boones Mill, Franklin County, VA on land granted to him by Governor Edmund Randolph
in 1782. The land grant to Jacob Knaff was locatated at the headwaters of Maggoty
Creek in Franklin County. (Archives Division, Virginia State Library, Land Office
Grants 15, 1787. Reel 81. pp. 558-560. They had 11 children: Mary b. 1756;
Abraham b. 1758; Sarah b. 1762; Isacc b. 1763; Susanna b. 1765; Jacob b. 1767;
Joseph b. ca 1769; Jonathan b. ca 1771; Elizabeth b. ca 1773; Catherine b. ca 1777;
David b. 1780.
He bought 314 acres of land on Magadee (Magotty) Creek on June 11, 1782; 125 acres of
neighboring land from Henry McDonald; May 2, 1791, 120 acres from Thomas Arthur
which in is will he gave to sons Jacob and David.
Land Grant to Jacob Naff, Sr.1
The land on which he [Jacob Naff, Sr.] settled his family in 1782 or soon thereafter was
by grant of Governor Edmund Randolph of Virginia. The land grand is quoted below. The
property description has been omitted.
"Edmund Randolph Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia-to whom these
presents shall come, Greeting. Knowye, that by virtue and in Consideration of a land
officer's Treasury Warrant number twelve thousand two hundred and fifty three issued
the eleventh day of June one thousand seven hundred and eighty two (11 June 1782)
there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Jacob Knaff assignee of David Morgan
a certain tract or parcel of land, containing three hundred and fourteen acres by
survey bearing Date the fourteenth day April one thousand seven Hundred and eighty
four lying and being in the County of Bedford and Bounded as followeth: To wit,
Beginning at a white oak on the North side of Magotty Creek...with its appurtenances
to the said Jacob Knaff and his heirs for ever in witness where of the said Edmund
Randolph Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto set his
Hand and caused the lessor Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond
on the Twentieth Day of March in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred
and eighty eight (20 Mar 1788) and the Commonwealth the Twelfth.
