    Notes:

named after Isaac Brock's brother [DWT]. Brock had several brothers, but the one referred to is Daniel De Lisle Brock: Daniel De Lisle was born on December 10th, 1762. In 1795 he was elected a jurat [* See Below] of the royal court. He went to London in connection with trade and other ancient privileges of the island. Afterwards he assumed the very influential position of lieutenant-bailiff or chief magistrate of Guernsey. He was responsible for building Elizabeth College which today is a very popular boys' school.

De Lisle was Isaac's mother's maiden name. Coming from the Channel Islands, the French name is not surprising.

[Guy St-Denis - Byron: Pioneer Days in Westminster Township, p97] [Archibald] Burtch, who was thus the fourth individual involved with the lot [34, northern part, south of Commissioners' Road], was another American. He had married Susannah, daughter of Peter Teeple, a United Empire Loyalist, of Oxford Township. As a daughter of a Loyalist she was entitled to 200 acres. Soon after, Burtch and his brother-in-law, Edward Teeple, who was located on lot 33, went to Westminster to begin their settlement duties. Unfortunately, they were unable to find their respective lots and so returned home. On February 6, 1816 Burtch penned a letter to Surveyor General Ridout regarding the location of his lot and at the same time alluded to the claims of others to what he understood was his and Teeple's land.
[p98] Edward Teeple helped Burthch to clear it and erect a house for which services he was paid $103.

Edward married Jemima Whitehead* on 01 Nov 1814 in Norfolk Co., UC. Jemima (daughter of Silas Whitehead and Ruth Condit) was born in 1797 in Long Island, NY; died on 08 Feb 1875. [Group Sheet]

Roger Whitehead at [email protected] says in an email dated 24 Apr 2012 Jemima was a daughter of Benjamin Whitehead and thus sister to William & Daniel Whitehead. We questioned him and he replied:

    Hi David
Thanks for keeping me in the loop re Whitehead and Brick Street Cemetery.
After your latest email I have been doing a little research and found there were two people named Jemima Teeple in Ontario at the same time.
In the 1851 Census a Jemima Teeple is listed in Malahide, Elgin County age 55 born NJ living with William B Teeple age 65 a farmer born in NB. Two children Lydia (23) and Stephen (22) were still with them.
Also in the 1851 Census a Jemima (spelt Jamima) is listed in Westminster Middlesex County age 55 born US living with Edward Teeple age 57 a blacksmith born in NS. Four children James (26), Aaron (23), Benjamin (21) and Helen (12) were still at home.
With this "duplication" it is easy to see how the two families can be confused.
Several Michigan censuses state the mother of those Teeples who went to Michigan was born NY.
The Michigan marriage of Benjamin Teeple to his brother Aaron's widow shows their mother's maiden name was Whitehead.

    My research:
    Hi
I've done some research into the Jemima Teeples. William Bullard Teeple and Edward Manning Teeple were brothers. Both married Jemimas. William married Jemima Leek and lived in Elgin, and Edward married Jemima Whitehead and lived in Middlesex. It is still not clear who Jemima Whitehead's parents were. If her father was Benjamin, which I strongly suspect, then she is a sister of William and Daniel and that connects all the Whiteheads at BSC. I found someone on Ancestry who has researched the Whiteheads of Middlesex. I have sent an email and hope she can help us. [no reply as of Oct 2012]

farmed 110 acres at L34 BF in 1842. It is not certain that Samuel and Thomas were brothers, but because Samuel farmed the south part of the same lot on C1, it is assumed they must be brothers.

    unknown arrival date in Westminster

[Guy St-Denis - Byron: Pioneer Days in Westminster Township] [James Shelden had acquired L35] On July 10, 1824 he sold an unspecified number of acres, being the north-west corner of the lot, to Thomas Jarvis.

He apparently went back to Pennsylvania to marry Harriet, although she was from Oxford Cy. So he came to Westminster from Pennsylvania, bought the land in July 1824, returned to Pennsylvania October 1824 and married Harriet. First child Belinda was born July 1825

Thomas married Harriet Brink* on 10 Oct 1824 in Wysox, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania. Harriet (daughter of Nicholas Brink and Elizabeth Moger) was born on 01 Jun 1805; died on 31 Jul 1857. [Group Sheet]
