FERGUSON- Mrs Annie Adella; passed away Friday, April 26, 1985 at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Annie Waugh in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late John G Ferguson. Dear mother of Archie of Cambridge, Mrs Helen Maker and Jean (Mrs Claude Kinsman) both of Brantford, Mrs Freda Miller, Edith (Mrs Manuel Horst), Annie (Mrs Don Dyer) and Velma (Mrs John Elliott) all of Cambridge. Sister of Floyd of Edenhurst, Clarence, Morgan and Mansil all of Wiarton, Rev Norman Nixon of Ferndale, Christie (Mrs William Morrow) of Lions Head, and Miss Winnifred Nixon of Owen Sound. Also survived by 43 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. Predeceased by a granddaughter Denise (Mrs Steve Dickinson), a sister Wilda, and two brothers Percy and Jack. H. CARMAN GILL (July 1973)
Port Elgin- H. Carman Gill, 63, of Port Elgin, died Tuesday in Saugeen Memorial Hospital, Southampton. Born at Lion's head, Mr Gill was son of the late Mr & Mrs Herbert Gill. In 1929, he married the former Edith Elizabeth Fisher at Doon and the couple lived in Preston until moving to Port Elgin in 1967. Mr. Gill was the operator of the Ontario motor vehicle licence agency in Port Elgin. He was a veteran of the Second World War. A member of Port Elgin United Church, Mr. Gill was also a past president of the Rotary Club and was the current chairman of the local district of the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association. Surviving, beside his wife, are four sons, Roy, Preston; Harold, Simcoe; Bob, Galt; and Burnie, Port Elgin. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Other survivors are two brothers John & Keith, both of Galt and one sister, Marjorie, Mrs Elwood Kerr, also of Galt. Mr Gill was predeceased by one brother, Raymond.

Predeceased by one daughter Joy, four sisters May (Mrs Colin Campbell), Eunice (Mrs Gordon
White), Vera (Mrs Emery Menary) and Emma and five brothers Will, Herb, Arnott,
Albert and Hector. Also survived by nineteen grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. Mrs. Hilditch was a life member of St John's UCW and the last
surviving member of the William T Hewton family. The funeral was held at the George
Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct 31 at 3:30pm Interment was at Bayview Cemetery.

A lifetime resident of the Hope Ness area, Ernest Morton Waugh, died suddenly at his home in Lion's Head on Oct 31, 1974. He was 62yrs of age. Mr Waugh was born at Hope Ness in Eastnor township, a son of the late Mr & Mrs Isaiah Waugh. He farmed in the Hope Ness area and about six weeks agohe moved into a new home on his farm in Lion's Head. On December 31, 1936, he married the former Lena McCutcheon who survives his passing along with a son Gordon and daughter Mildred Tracy both of Barrie. Also surviving are five grandchildren, a brother, Clarence of Wiarton, two sister, Vina, Mrs Gordon Clark, Hope Ness and Annia, Mrs Clarence Watson, Kincardine. The late Mr Waugh attended the United Missionary church and was an active curler. The funeral service for Mr Waugh was held on Sunday at 2:30pm from the Davidson Funeral Home, Lion's head. Rev James Hill was in charge of the service and was assisted by Rev Sherman Myles. Mrs Sherman Myles sang "The Pearly White City'. Pall bearers were Hartley Watson, Jack Clark. Bill Gott, Ralph Bartley, Bobbie Tyndall and Edwin McCutcheon. Burial was made in Eastnor Cemetery. A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral from Chesley, Dundalk, Kincardine, Barrie, London, Toronto, Tara, Port Elgin, Owen sound, Wiarton and the Bruce Peninsula.

Meneray - Vera Mabel; at her home in Lion's Head on Friday, Feb 7th, 1986, the former Vera Hewton in her 75th year. Youngest daughter of the late Mr & Mrs William T. Hewton. Wife of the late Emery Meneray. Mother of William of Toronto; Maurice and Roger both of Lion's Head; Norman and Priscilla (Mrs Wayne King) both of Owen Sound and Muriel (Mrs William Kreutzweiser) of London. Sister of Lily (Mrs Jack Hilditch) of Wiarton. Predeceased by three sisters Mary, Eunice and Emma and five brothers Herbert, Willie, Arnott, Albert and Hector. Also survived by thirteen grandchildren. The family received friends at the George Funeral Home, Davidson chapel, Main Street, Lion's head. Mrs Frank Waugh Dies Here Saturday In Her 83rd Year. (died 28 Nov 1959) A resident
of Owen Sound for the past 58 years, Mrs Frank Waugh died Saturday morning at the White
Manor Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past three months. She was in her
83rd year. Mrs. Waugh had been in failing health for some time, and had been in
hospital several time in the past two years. Born March 17, 1877 near Lucknow, Mrs Waugh
was the former Susannah Hamilton, daughter of the late Archibald and Mary Jane Thompson
Hamilton. She married George Hinds and they had two daughters both of whom survive, Zella,
Mrs Kenneth Ward of Owen Sound and Donna Mrs Cecil Lynden of Toronto. Mr Hinds predeceased
her. Twenty-three years ago she married Capt. Frank Waugh who died in 1945. Other
survivors included four stepchildren, Frank and Clifford Waugh of Owen Sound, Jean, Mrs
Gordon Stoneman of Chatsworth and Mrs. Goldie Ferguson of Preston. There are five
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs Waugh was the last surviving member of a
family of 12. The late Mrs. Waugh was a member of Knox United Church and of the
Canadian Order of Chosen Friends.

Gordon D. White (died 5 July 1975)
Lions head- Former Bruce County Warden Gordon David White, 71, died Saturday at the Earl R Harris Red Cross Hospital in Lions head. Mr. White was reeve of the village from 1932 to 1946, and in 1945 he was the first reeve from Lions head to become Bruce County Warden. He was born in Mar, the son of the late Mr & Mrs. John White. When he was a young man he moved to Lions head to work in the Gardiner Garage and then in 1928, he purchased a garage and started his own business. Besides municipal politics, Mr White also served on the village school board for a number of years. He was a member of the United Church and was on the board of trustees for many years and was treasurer of the church's building and renovation fund. He was also the treasurer of the building fund for the Red Cross Hospital. Mr White was also a former member of the Lions Head Rotary club. In 1929 he married the former Eunice Hewton, who survives. Also surviving are five sons, Carman and John, both of Lions Head, Roy of RR3, Allenford, Ivan of Glammis and Bruce of Timmins, 10 grandchildren, three brothers, Alfred, Alex and Walter, all of Wiarton, three sisters, Alice, Mrs Archie Weir, of Wiarton; Mary, Mrs Walter Ball of RR6, Wiarton; and Pearl, Mrs. Emmerson Cook, of Meaford. Mr White was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen, a son,Cecil, and three brothers, Russell, George and Bill.

Julia May Hewton Passes
A well known resident of the Barrow Bay and Lion's Head area for the past 70 years, Julia May Hewton of Lion's head passed away at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, April 24, 1991. She was in her 90th year, born in 1902 at Lake Charles, she was the daughter of the late George and Bertha (Marshall) Graham About 1921 she came to Barrow Bay where she was employed in the Barrow Bay Store and Post Office. She spent three years there and in January 1924, she married the late Albert Hewton. The couple took up farming in the Eastnor township flats where they remained until they retired to Lion's Head in 1962, and where she has resided since the death of her husband in 1979. While residing in Eastnor township she attended the Centreville United Church where she taught Sunday School and was President of the United Church women for many years. When Mr & Mrs Hewton moved to Lion's head, she attended Central United Church and was a faithful worker at both places. Mrs. Hewton was also a Life Member of the UCW A member of the Edenhurst Women's Institute, a member of the Seniors Friendship Club and a Charter and Life Member of the Ladies' Auxiliary to Branch 202 of the Royal Canadian.

Well Known Young Lady Dies After Week's Illness With Pneumonia Many friends in this city will be shocked to learn of the death of Mrs Jack A Waugh, who passed away at the G & M. Hospital Friday morning after a week's illness from pneumonia. The late Mrs Waugh, who was only 25 years of age and who had made her home in Owen Sound for the past eight and a half years, will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friends. She was a member of Westside Untied Church choir and in charge of a class in the church Sunday School. Deceased, whose maiden name was Hilda Redfern Jolley was a native of St Vincent township. She was a daughter of Mr & Mrs. George H Jolley of this city, who now survive to mourn her passing, together with her husband, Mr Jack A Waugh, to whom she was united in marriage five years ago. She also leaves to mourn her sudden death two brothers, George M Jolley of St Vincent and William R Jolley of Havana, Cuba and three sisters, Miss Louise Jolley of Toronto; Edith, Mrs William Porter, of St Vincent; and May, Mrs. Walter Hutchinson of Sydenham. James Allan Waugh Passes in His 63rd Year (Dec 11, 1940) Many friends and relatives will regret the passing of Allen Waugh, of Adamsville, at his home on Wed Dec 11th. he has been in ill health for the past year. Mr Waugh was born at Hope ness and came to McIver with his parents, the late Francis and Mrs Waugh, to the township of Albemarle in 1890 and in 1901 moved to his farm in Adamsville, where he has farmed until his death. He operated a saw-mill for the last eleven years as a side line. Mr Waugh was married to Margaret Jane Howe in the year 1904. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and one daughter Mabel, Mrs Andrew Butchart, Hope Ness; two sons: Elgin of Ferndale and Mervyn at home; one son died in 1916; two sister: Mrs. R E Norman, Pasqua, Sask; Mrs W M Howe, Purple Valley, and four brothers: W M Waugh, Moose Jaw, Sask Thomas of Rolla, BC; Alfred , of Porcupine Plane, Sask; Ernest, of Islay, Alta. Mr Waugh took an active part in municipal affairs, where he served on the board for three years, also on the School Board for a number of years. he was a staunch conservative and in religion was layman in the Anglican church, which he dearly loved to attend when health permitted. Then Funeral was held from his late residence. The service was conducted by Rev H F Cross, who delivered a very impressive sermon. The beautiful floral tributes spoke of the high esteem in which Mr Waugh was held and the sympathy felt for the bereaved family. The pall-bearer wee Messrs, A Forbes, W Crowe, V Urbshott, C H Whicher, Robert Hepburn and G Thompon. (Thompson?) The flower bearers were four nephews: Pte G Howe, F Howe, A Howe and D Howe; J Waugh and E Hoy. Interment was made in Colpoys Cemetery.

WIARTON TEEN KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT ( May 24, 1991)
Residents of Wiarton and surrounding districts continue to grieve the death of a young Wiarton woman, who was killed in a car accident Friday afternoon. Sandra Hoath, 18, daughter of Mr. & Mrs Stan Hoath of Wiarton was killed when the car she was a passenger in crashed into a ditch and rolled over. Owen Sound OPP Staff Sgt. Tiley said the car was southbound on sideroad 30-31 of Keppel township, about 1km north of Hepworth, when the driver lost control. Tiley said the vehicle went onto the west shoulder and the driver overcorrected, sending the car into a "four-wheel drift." It left the road, rolling over and landing on its side on a stone fence. The driver and passenger Jessica Bailey, 17, of Wiarton were taken to hospital in Wiarton with minor injuries. Tiley would not release the of the 16 year old driver because "charges are pending." News of the teen's death moved quickly through the town causing shock and grief. Sandra was a popular grade 12 student, who was well like by her peers and teachers. A special guidance team was at the high school Monday to provide counselling to students. About 400 attended the funeral and visitation. At the accident, a pole was knocked down and live wires hampered rescue operations. The Intertownsip fire department had to use air bags to turn the car over. The driver and Jessica Bailey had crawled out of the vehicle.

Waugh- On Tuesday, Oct 30, 1945, at the General and Marine Hospital, Owen Sound, Capt. Francis Joseph Waugh, in his 76th year. The late Capt Waugh is resting at the Kyle Funeral Chapel, service in the Chapel on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday evening at 9 o'clock.

Former Alderman Cliff Waugh Dies
A former city alderman and member of many civic and community committees, Clifford T. Waugh, 74, died in the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital Friday evening. Mr Waugh was first elected to Owen Sound city council in 1964 and served through 1972, when he defeated in seeking his fifth term. He was a member of the Owen Sound planning board, and a former member of the Georgian Bay Regional Development Council, public library board, art gallery and museum boards, a director of the Victorian Order of Nurses, and a member of the city chamber of commerce. Mr Waugh was also a member of Central United Church and of the board of stewards, Past Master of St George's Lodge 88, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. In 1965, he retired as station agent for the Canadian National Railways in Owen Sound. He began his career with the CNR as a telegraphist in Owen Hound. Upon promotion to station agent he served at Weston, commuting to his home in Owen Sound for 15 years, then was appointed as agent in this city. Born in Owen Sound, he was a son of the late Capt Frank Waugh and Margaret Jane Bain Waugh. In 1925 he married Freda Margarett Bennitz who predeceased him in July this year. Surviving are sons James of Thistletown, Richard T. of Ottawa and daughter Elizabeth (Betty), Mrs, Wallace Ritchie of Clavering. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and a sister Dell, Mrs. G Ferguson of Cambridge. Mr Waugh was predeceased by one brother and one sister.

Mrs Isaiah Waugh Passes at Dundalk A well-known resident of this district for many years, Mrs. Isaiah Waugh of Hope Bay passed away on Sunday at the home of her daughter (Annie) Mrs. Clarence Watson at Dundalk where she had spent the past few weeks. In her 80th year, she was the former Annie Elizabeth Morton, daughter of the late Mr & Mrs B H Morton and was born in New Brunswick. She came to the Bruce Peninsula when a very young girl and in 1901 she married Isaiah Waugh of Hope Bay. They spent their entire life at the family farm at Hope Bay. Surviving to mourn her passing besides her husband are two daughters, (Annie) Mrs Clarence Watson of Dundalk, (Vina) Mrs Gordon Clarke of Hope Bay and two sons, Clarence and Ernie Waugh both of Hope Bay. There are ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. There are also four brothers, Eric, Bruce, Fred and Charlie Morton all residing in British Columbia. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm from the Davidson Funeral Home where a large number of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects. The service was in charge of Rev. J Hill assisted by Rev. J T Austin who spoke comforting words. With a granddaughter, Miss Phillis Watson at the piano, a favourite hymn, "Shall we gather at the river" was sung and Mrs Sherman Myles sang special numbers, "Precious Lord lead me on", and "The Eastern Gate". Some of the many beautiful floral pieces were carried by eight granddaughters. The pall bearers were grandsons, John Clarke, Gordon Waugh and Harley Watson and nephews John Waugh, Reuben Waugh and Stewart mcElrea.

Capt F J Waugh, Veteran Sailor of Lakes, Dead
Capt Frank J Waugh, who has sailed the Great Lakes for 50 summers, and who had made his home in this city for nearly the same length of time, passed away in the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. He was 75 years of age. Capt Waugh first sailed as cook with Capt Richard Chapman of Lions Head on the tug "Arbutus" and was at one time the youngest master mariner of Georgian Bay. His final trip was made during the past summer on George Marron's fishing tug in June. His death came after an illness of six weeks. The late Capt Waugh had spent the summer visiting in Wingham with his wife and had returned to this city in September, where he had been confined to hospital since. Thirty-six months after he began his career on the lake, Capt Waugh qualified for his mater's certificate and was for some time the youngest captain on Georgina Bay. He came to Owen Sound at that time to take over the captaincy of the tug "Rover" of the Owen Sound Dredging Company and Construction Company, owned by the late Dr Horsey. The "Rover" was engaged in dredging the local harbour and many points on the Great Lakes. After the "Rover" was sold to the Canadian Dredging Company, Capt Waugh spent the next several years on different tugs, including the "D. S. Pratt", "Beaumont," "Frances," and "Maitland". One season during the First Great War, was spent on the tug "McNaughton" at the Welland Canal. The late Capt Waugh had also served on the Manitoulin, and Wahanitea. When his brother, Capt George Waugh, died 16 yrs ago, Capt Frank Waugh became the master of the tug "Harrison," and after it was disposed of, took over her successor, the tug, "Northern." Born in Minto township near Palmerston 75yrs ago, Capt Waugh was a son of the late Mr & Mrs Thomas Waugh. He moved, along with his family, to the Bruce Peninsula when he was nine years of age, and they became one of the best known pioneer families of Coploy's Bay district. His father was a native of Ireland, while his mother was from Pennsylvania. On March 11th, 1896, the late Capt Waugh was united in marriage to Margaret Jane Bain at Wiarton. She predeceased her husband in 1926. In 1930, Capt Waugh was married a second time at Owen Sound, to Susan Hines, who survives. Capt Waugh was a member of Westside United Church and had also been a valued member of St George's Masonic Lodge No. 88.Left to survive his passing are his wife, two daughters Jean, Mrs Gordon Stoneman of Vineland,Ont; Adella, Mrs G Ferguson, Galt; two sons, Frank and Clifford of Owen Sound; one brother T R Waugh, London; five sisters, Mrs G Thomas, London, Mrs Bert Gill, Doon, Ont; Mrs W J Nediger, Clinton; Mrs Mary Foster, and Bertha, Mrs Jos. Hoath, both in the west. There are also two step daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Ward of Owen Sound and Mrs Paul Linden of Toronto. Predeceasing him are two brothers, John and Geo. and two sister, Lucy and Sarah.
