JOSEPH CAIRNS
On Wednesday morning of last week there passed away, after a long
illness one of Lambton's foremost citizens, in the person of
Mr. Joseph Cairns at his home in Camlachie. Mr. Cairns had been sick for
many months, and though everything that medical science could suggest was tried, it was
impossible to check the disease. Death was caused by liver troubles. Mr. Cairns was
a member of the Presbyterian Church and was widely known and
highly esteemed. He was 53 years old at the time of his death, and
that so useful a man should be taken while in his prime, a vacancy is created that
it will be hard to fill in the lives of a very wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Cairns had filled the office of township and county counceller, and warden of
the county and at the time of death was president of the West Lambton Reform
association, which office he had held for many years. He had conducted a
general store in Camlachie for many years, doing a thriving business, and was noted
for his integrity and square dealing. He leaves to mourn a widow and 3
daughters, Mrs. P. McGregor Brown and Misses Minnie and Myrtle at home. The funeral
took place from the family residence on Friday to Beechwood Cemetery, Forest. The
bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of all in their
affliction.
