WAUGH, Adrian at the Wiarton Hospital on Thursday, January 26th, 1978. Adrian Waugh, dear husband of Hazel Hatt. Father of Marion (Mrs Gerald Sterling) of Stratford. Betty (Mrs Burton Atkinson) of Hepworth. Wilfred of Echo Bay. John of Regina and Don of Barrie.  Brother of Rachel (Mrs Morrow) of Toronto.  Mary (Mrs William Blackwood) of Waterloo and Ruth (Mrs Earl Wilkins) of Hespeter.  Predeceased by sisters, Cora, Eunic, Gretta, Annie, Ida and brothers Deurwood, Wilbert, Gilbert, Ruben and three grandchildren. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  Mr. Waugh is resting at the George Funeral Home, 430 Mary Street, Wiarton where service will be held on Salurday, January 28th at 2:00pm.  Temporary intombant Bayview Mortuary, Wiarton.  Donations to the Ontario Heart Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Royal Canadian Legeion, Branch number 208, will hold a memorial service Friday evening at 8:00pm.

JACK WAUGH DIES SUDDENLY SUNDAY AT SAUBLE COTTAGE
  John Ainslie "Jack" Waugh prominent Owen Sound man, died suddenly early Sunday evening, at his cottage at south Sauble Beach.   Mr Waugh, who was in his 51st year, apparently had been in excellent health and complained only a short while before suffering the heart attack of not feeling well.   With his wife and two daughters, Mr Waugh had been visiting friends a mere two hours before the attack.   A native of Owen Sound, Mr Waugh was a son of the late captain George Waugh and Margaret Watson Waugh.  For almost 35 years he was employed at the William Kennedy and sons Limited and at the time of his death was purchasing agent.   Mr Waugh was active in community affairs and was secretary and past president of the Owen Sound Kiwanis club.  He was president of the local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society and a past member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA.   A devout member of Westside United Church, Mr Waugh for the past 25 years was Clerk of Session and superintendent of the Sunday School.  He was also a trustee of the church.   Mr Waugh is survived by his wife, the former Helen Wilson, to whom he was married in 1944 and two daughters, Slyvia and Nora, both at home at 665- 8th Street East.  A sister, Alma, Mrs William Brown of Owen Sound and a brother William of Toronto also survive.

WAUGH--Suddenly on Tuesday, May 8, 1945, at the residence of her son, Jack Waugh, 435 13th Street. "A" West, Margaret Amelia Waugh, widow of Captain George Waugh and loving mother of Alma, (Mrs W W Brown) Hepworth, William, Port Arthur and Jack, Owen Sound, in her 74th year. The late Mrs Waugh is resting at the Kyle Funeral chapel.  Service in the Chapel Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Interment Greenwood Cemetery.

Frank Brooks, 92, Dies in Illinois
Lion's Head - Word was received here this week by relatives that a former resident, Frank Brooks, died at his home in Zion, Illinois on thursday evening.  He was 92 years old.  As a young man, he resided in Eastnor twp on the farm now owned by Mr & Mrs. Alvin Stewart.  He left here about fifty years ago with his wife, the former Mary Morton, a sister of the late Mrs Isaiah Waugh.  She predeceased him several years ago.  Surviving are two daughters, Jeanette and Clara.

HEPBURN, Elda Laura: at the Wiarton Hospital on Monday March 5, 1990.  The former Elda Howe of Wiarton, wife of the late Harvey Hepburn.  Mother of Joyce (Mrs Charlie Crawford) of RR1 Wiarton, and Bill of Purple Valley. Sister of Ollie Heimpel of Kitchener, Clara Waugh of Flint, Michigan, Annie Hoy of Sault Ste Marie, Allan of Colpy's Bay and Ivan of Kitchener. Predeceased by two sister Elveras, Carrie Caldwell, four brothers Frank, Percy, David and Garnet, and one granddaughter Barbara.  Also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  The family will receive friends at the George Funeral Home, Wiarton on Tuesday from 2:00 -4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm   complete funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Wednesday March 7th at 2:00pm  Spring Interment, Colpoy's Bay Cemetery. Mrs Allan Waugh, Lifelong Resident of Bruce, Passes. A native of Purple Valley, Mrs Allan Waugh, died Sunday, Nov 3, in the Bruce Peninsula and District Memorial Hospital.  She had been in failing health for only a short time. Born in Purple Valley in 1882, she was the former Margaret Jane Howe, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. George Howe.  She lived at Purple Valley until 1904 when she married James Waugh and moved to Adamsville.  He predeceased her in 1940. About eight years ago, Mrs Waugh came to Wiarton to make her home with a brother, Ed Howe.  She was a member of the Anglican Faith. Surviving are one daughter, Mabel, Mrs Andrew Butchart of Hope Ness: two sons, Elgin and Mervin, both of Adamsville: one brother, Ed of Wiarton; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs Waugh was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

Joseph Waugh , 78, passes in Arran Tara, May 23 - Joseph Waugh former resident of Dobbinton and of Hopeness passed away on Thursday in his 79th year.  His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Coffey, Con 4, Arran township.  Deceased, who was in his 79th year, had suffered a lengthy illness but had only been confined to  his bed since Monday of this week. The late Mr. Waugh was a native of York township, a son of the late Mr & Mrs Joseph Waugh.  He was united in marriage on March 25, 1896 to Agnes Boyd, who survives, and they farmed at Hope ness before moving to Dobbinton 25 years ago.  Five years ago the late Mr Waugh suffered a stroke and since that time had made his home with his daughter, Lena, Mrs Thomas Coffey. Other children surviving are Percy and Reuben of Elderslie township, Alfred of Detroit, Susie, Mrs George Legge, and Gladys, Mrs Wilfred Trask of Arran township, Francis of Sullivan township, and Marjorie, Mrs Wilfred Thompson, of Paisley.

Sadly missed by five great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by her brother Harold Plante.  The late Mrs. Waugh is resting at the Tannahill Funeral Home where the funeral service will be conducted on Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.  visiting at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm.

W.C. GORDON CLARK  of Hope Ness Dies    1967

Lion's head - A life long resident of the Hope Ness area W.C. Gordon Clark, died in the Bruce Peninsula and District Hospital, Wiarton following a stroke. He was in his 65th year. Mr Clark was born at Hope ness on the farm where resided all his life, a son of the late Catherine Fries and Harmon Clark. In September 1927 he married Mina Waugh at the family home in Hope ness by Rev. JW Oliver.  She survives along with a son John at home on the farm, three grandchildren and a sister, Etta.(Mrs Elbern Mackie) of Hope Ness. Mr Clark was a member of the United Church.

Foster, formerly of Queen Street, St Marys in her 93rd year.  Dear mother of Thea (Mrs Derwin Beatson) of Granton and Trevor of London and sister of Mrs Edith Shier of Thamesford.  Also six granchildren and eleven great granchildren survive.  Resting at the Lindsay Funeral Home, Wellington Street, St Marys and where the funeral service wil be held Sunday, September 19, at 2PM. Mother of Elizabeth (Betty) Mrs Wallace Ritchie of Clavering, James of Thistletown and Richard of Ottawa. Sister of Frank of Toronto, Charles of Burlington, Bertha (Mrs John Martin) of Willowdale, Gertrude (Mrs Merlyn Widdifield ) of Newmarket, Douglas of Sudbury and Arch of Niagara Falls.  Also survived by eight grandchildren and predeceased by two brothers Herman and Ernest.  The late Mrs Freda Waugh will be resting at the Breckenridge-Ashcroft Funeral Home from noon on Wednesday until Thursday afternoon where a service will be held at 1:30pm Interment Greenwood Cemetery.  If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society as your expression of sympathy.

Isaiah Waugh dies         5 April 1964

Lion's Head- a resident of the Bruce Peninsula all his life. Isaiah Waugh, died Sunday in the Park Manor Home, Chesley, where he has spent the past three years. Born at Hope Ness where he spent his life, he was a son of the late Joseph & Mary Waugh, who were the first permanent settlers in Eastnor township over 110 years ago.  He was in his 88th year and had celebrated his 87th birthday on February 17. In 1901 he married the former Annie Morton, who predeceased him on November 1, 1959. Surviving are two sons, Clarence and Ernest, both of Hope Ness, two daughters, Vina, Mrs Gordon Clark, Hope ness and Annie, Mrs Clarence Watson, Dundalk, one sister, Mrs Walter McElrea, Wiarton,  10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by six brothers and four sisters. Mrs Waugh (I think they meant  Mr) was a member of the old Methodist Church and later the United Church.  At one time he served on the Eastnor township council.

Howe, Irene Winnifred Laura at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 13, 1986. Irene Howe of 285-B Sheperd Ave, Cambridge in her 57th year.  Dear wife of Theron and mother of Carol, Glenn, Gary, Brian and his wife Leslie all of Cambridge; also survived by her mother, Mrs Gladys Richardson of Wiarton and brother Cliff and Norm of Cambridge and Howard of Wiarton. Also survived by one grandchild. Funeral services were held today at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd, Cambridge. Interment  followed in New Hope Cemetery Cambridge. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Medical Day Care Fund at eh Funeral Home.

 

Late Mrs Frank Waugh Laid to Rest Monday

(d. 28 Nov 1959)

Funeral services for the late Mrs Frank Waugh, who died Saturday at the White Manor Nursing Home, were held Monday afternoon from the Breckenridge-Ashcroft Funeral Home. The service was largely attended and there were many floral tributes. Rev Morrison Sellar, minster of Knox United Church, Owen sound, conducted the service. Pallbearers were Arthur Harrison, William Brown, Herbert Sage , Earl Powers, Paul Lyden and William Livingston. Interment took place in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends and relatives attending from a distance were from Toronto, Kitchener, Wingham and Trenton.

Emary Meneray  (d. 12 Dec. 1975)

Lion's Head- Emeray Meneray, 72, a life-long resident of Lions head, died Friday in the Red Cross Hospital. A son of the late Mr & Mrs. Pankhurst Meneray, he was a commercial fisherman until 22yrs ago, when he became a marine engineer on Great Lakes Freighters. He retired seven years ago. In 1931, Mr Meneray married Vera Hewton who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons William of Toronto, Norman of Owen Sound, and Maurice and  Roger, both of Lion's Head, and daughters Muriel, Mrs. William Kreutzweiser of London and Priscilla, Mrs. Wayne King of RR3 Owen Sound. There are 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Frank Menary and Graham Meneray, both of Lions head, and sisters Alice, Mrs. James Casey of Toronto and Hazel, Mrs Fred Pedwell of Bobcaygeon. Mr Meneray was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. He was a member of the United church. (Note the two different ways Emeray is spelled)

MacKenzie-Mary Jane; at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre on Monday, February 16, 1987.  Mary Jane Waugh of 1935 - 9th Avenue East. Loved wife of Gerald MacKenzie, Dear daughter of Wilda and the late Frank Waugh.  Mother of Nancy (Mrs Kevin Lang), Frank, Craig and Ted.  Sadly missed by five grandchildren.  The late Mrs Mackenzie is resting at the Tannahill funeral Home, where the funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm  Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.  Visiting at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Waugh- Elda May; at Wiarton on Monday, October 9, 1989.  The former Elda thompson of RR4, Wiarton.  Wife of Elgin Waugh.  Mother of Ruth (Mrs David Cunningham) of Owen Sound.  Sister of Nettie (Mrs Fawcett Rae) of Wiarton, Katie (Mrs Stewart Balls) of Wiarton, Dorothy (Mrs Dave Scott) of Lions Head and Joe of BC.  Predeceased by one brother Elmer.  Also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  The family will receive friends at the George Funeral Home, Wiarton on Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm  Funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Wednesday Oct 11 at 2:00pm  Interment Colpoys Bay Cemetery.  Unity Rebekah Lodge no 147 will hold a memorial service on tuesday evening at 7:30pm at  the funeral home. Teddy Atkinson, Clavering, Dies    (29 may 1958)
Wiarton - After a lengthy illness, Edward Thomas (Teddy) Atkinson died at his home in Clavering on Tuesday.  He was the 13 yr old son of Mr & Mrs Burton Atkinson of Clavering.  Mrs Atkinson was the fomer Betty Waugh of Wiarton. Surviving besides his parents are two sisters, Nancy and Anne, and one brother, John, all at home.  His grandparents, Mr & Mrs. A Waugh of Wiarton and Mrs T Atkinson of Clavering also survive. Teddy attended the United Church Sunday School in Clavering.

Youngest daughter of the late Mr & Mrs William T Hewton.  Wife of the late Emery Meneray, Mother of William of Toronto, Maurice and Roger both of Lions Head. Norman and Priscilla (Mrs Wayne King) both of Owen Sound and Muriel (Mrs William Kreutzweiser) of London.  Sister of Lily (Mrs Jack Hilditch) of Wiarton. Predeceased by three sisters Mary, Eunice and Emma and five brothers, Herbert, Willie, Arnott, Albert and  Hector.  Also survived by Thirteen grandchildren. The family received friends at the George Funeral Home, Davidson Chapel, Lions head.  Funeral service was held Monday Feb 10 at 2:30pm Spring interment Eastnor Cemetery.


CAPT FRANK WAUGH BURIED ON FRIDAY   (Oct 1945)

The funeral service for the late Captain Frank Waugh, well known resident of this city was held on Friday afternoon from the Kyle Funeral Chapel.  The many beautiful floral tributes including floral anchors were banked across the front of the chapel, forming a beautiful setting for the final tribute to this popular and well known lake Captain. Rev Arthur Page, of Westside United Church, where the deceased had been a faithful member, had charge of the service, and brought a comforting message to the bereaved family.  Rev R Bruce Hallett of Central United Church, assisted with the impressive service.  Mrs Merritt Nediger of Clinton, sang a favorite hymn "We have an Anchor."  Honorary pallbearers were eight Captains from the city, Captains D. Noland, A. Batten, Chas. Randall, Dougal MacIntyre, HJ Little, George Hindman, E. Long, A. Whitesides.  The active pallbearers were Captain George Robinson, Captain Everett Matheson, Capt R S Rennie, Capt Rodney Graham, Earl Carr and Clyde Mock.  Interment was made in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery. A Masonic Service was conducted on Thursday evening at the Kyle Funeral Chapel, when members of St George's Masonic Lodge, of which the late Captain Waugh had been a valued member, gathered with other Masonic brethren for the service.  Worshipful Master Kenneth MacDonald had charge of the impressive service.Out of town friends and relatives present for the funeral included: - Mr & Mrs WJ Nediger, Mr & Mrs Merritt Nediger, Clinton; Mr & Mrs Clifford Holland, Mrs Harold Turner, Goderich; Mrs Bert Gill, Doom, Ont; Mr TR Waugh, London; Mr & Mrs Gordon Stoneman and family, Vineland; Mr & Mrs G Ferguson and daughter Freda, Galt; Mr Tom Waugh, Adamsville; Mrs. Cecil Linden, Toronto; Mr DeWitt Miller, Wingham; Mr & Mrs Frank Bain, Mrs Annie McIvor, Mrs Lavina Smith, Lions Head, and Harold Baine, St Catherines.
