JOHN J. GILLATLY

The  funeral will be held from McKay and White funeral home at  2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon of John J. Gillatly, 76 years old  resident of Plympton Township, who died yesterday after a two weeks illness.  Mr.  Gillatly  was born in Plympton Township and was  a  well  known farmer. Fifty years ago he married Wilemina Jardine who survives  him. Other  survivors include two daughters; Mrs. Alton Anderson of  Plympton;  Mrs.  Harker of British Columbia; four sons, John  of  Plympton, Walter of Sarnia, Alexander and George of Plympton; two sisters,  Mrs. Joseph  Lowrie  of Camlachie and Mrs. Frank Merriam  of  Alberta.  Mr. Gillatly was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wyoming. The  remains will rest at the family residence, lot 16 concession  6 until tomorrow morning. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery.

WILHEMINA  GILLATLY

Mrs. Wilhemina Gillatly, 79 year old resident of Plympton Township near Camlachie. Born at Aberardern, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jardine, Mrs., Gillatly resided on the sixth concession of Plympton for more than half a century. She was well known throughout the Township and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Members of the surviving family include two daughters; Mrs. Alton Anderson of Plympton and Mrs. T.H. Saul in Alberta; four sons, Walter of Sarnia, Stewart in Plympton and John and Alex at home; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Brown of London, Mrs. D.S. Douglas of Plympton, and Mrs. Duncan Ferguson of Plympton and a brother William B. Jardine of Plympton. Her husband died five years ago. The remains are at the family residence Lot 15 Con 6 Plympton and the funeral will be held from the McKay and White Funeral Home at Wyoming on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock. Interment will be at Wyoming Cemetery.

John Lester Gillatly, 75, formerly of Plympton Township, died Monday in Petrolia. (30 Dec 1968). He was a retired farmer, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs/ John J. Gillatly. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jean Anderson of Wanstead and Mrs. Mattie Saul of Forest and one brother, Stewart Gillatly of Plympton. He was predeceased by two brothers Walter and Alec. Funeral services will be held from McKay and White Funeral Home, Wyoming at 2 p.m. on Friday with Rev. Hugh Nugent officiating. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.

WALTER GILLATLY

Walter J. Gillatly, 68, of 417 Wellington Street, died in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Sunday. Born in Camlachie, he has resided in this area most of his life. Previous to his retirement he was employed as a die maker with the Prestolite Co., for some 19 years. He was of Presbyterian faith. Surviving besides his wife the former Vera Wills, are one daughter, Mrs. James A. (Elaine) Daley of Pontiac, Mich., and two grandchildren Richard J., and Christine Daley also two sisters Mrs. Elton Anderson of Wyoming and Mrs. Mattie Saul, of Forest. Funeral service will be held at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Hugh Nugent of Wyoming Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.

BESSIE (Lowrie)  GILLATLY

Mrs.  David  Gillatly, sixth line of Plympton died at  her  home  on Wednesday  afternoon.  She had been ailing for a few months,  but  her condition became critical a short time ago. Her maiden name was Bessie Lowrie and she was born at Aberarder, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Lowrie. Forty years ago she married David Gillatly and went to reside at her late residence. She was a Presbyterian and attended the Wyoming Church and was a woman well beloved by all who knew her. Surviving are her husband, two daughters and two sons; Mrs.  Wilbert McFarlane  of  Forest, Mrs. Barrett Forbes of Kertch.  Roy  and  David (Mac) at home. Two children Ada and John predeceased her. Also  surviving are four sisters; Mrs. Wesley Park of  Sarnia,  Mrs. George  Ironside of Point Edward; Mrs. William Wright of Flint,  Mich; and Miss Kate Lowrie in Inwood; and three brothers, Andrew, Joseph and George Lowrie all of Plympton. The  funeral  will be held on Friday with service at the home  at  2 p.m. and interment in Wyoming Cemetery.

At Sarnia General Hospital on Wednesday 6 October 1976, Roy Lowrie Gillatly, age 68 years of R.R. 2 Wyoming. Son of David and Bessie Gillatly. David "Mac" Gillatly, 44, of R.R. 2, Wyoming, Plympton Township a farmer all his life died Sunday following a heart seizure at this home. He was the husband of the former Lorina Mae Fraser of Sarnia and Camlachie. Surviving besides his widow, is a son, Ronald at home, two sisters, Mrs. W.J. McFarlane of Forest and Mrs. Barrett Forbes and a brother Roy, both of Plympton Township. Mrs. Gillatly if The Observer’s county correspondent for the Matlock district in Plympton Township. At her residence on Wednesday 1 May 1996, Mae Gillatly, (nee  Fraser)  of  R.R. #2, Wyoming in her 80th year. Beloved wife of  the  late David (Mac) Gillatly (1957) and Roy Gillatly (1976). Greatly  missed by her son Ron and Vanita Gillatly, R.R.#1,  Camlachie, her grandchildren, Janice and Steve Parker of Forest, David  and Nancy Gillatly of Camlachie and Dwayne Gillatly of R.R.#1,  Camlachie, her great grandchildren, Riley and Randa Gillatly and Sean and  Jordyn Parker. The funeral of James Gillatly of the Sixth line of Plympton took place on Saturday February 16 the service was conducted by the Rev. M. G. Court, at the family residence. A male quartet consisting of George Dewar, Charles Smith, Arthur Brittain and Robert Dewar, of Wyoming, rendered the music. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful and a large number of people attended the funeral. The pallbearers were Duncan Ferguson, James Lockie, Roy Wright, Newell Wright, David Shea and Edgar Fleming, all beighbors of the deceased. Interment was made in Wyoming Cemetery.

Margaret Winnifred (Ferguson) Gillatly, 75, of Twilight Haven Nursing Home in Petrolia, died Friday, 30 November at Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital. Formerly of Wyoming, Mrs. Gillatly was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Wyoming. She was predeceased by her husband John Gillatly. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Yvonne) Whitely of Wyoming, and Mrs. Jim (Beverly) Richardson of Sarnia, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brother Archie Ferguson of Wyoming, sisters Mildred Thompson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Edith Monteith of Sarnia, also several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held from the Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Rd., Monday at 2 p.m. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday afternoon and evening. Died at her late residence, Camlachie, Friday 26th April 1957,  Mrs. Ellen Lowrie, beloved wife of Joseph William Lowrie, in her 76th year. MORIAH MURRAY ROSS

The death of Mrs. William Ross, of this town, occurred last Thursday in  Winnipeg where she had gone over two months ago, on the advice  of her physician and friends, in hopes a change would prove beneficial to her health, but unexpected complications took place and two weeks  ago her condition became serious and her husband was sent for. He  arrived in Winnipeg, Sunday 29th July, and found her improved, but a few  days later she became suddenly worse and died on 2nd August. The remains were brought here Monday accompanied by Mr. Ross and the deceased's sister, Mr. J.T. Cairns, of Kelloe, Manitoba. The  funeral  took place from the family residence,  Albert  Street, Tuesday  afternoon to Beechwood Cemetery. Rev. J.R. Laverie  officiating. The  pallbearers were: James Broughton, J.R. Brush, D.  Coultis,  T. Daly, R.R. McFarlane, H.B. Stoddart. Her  husband,  four sons and six daughters survive  her:  Milton  of Winnipeg;  Orville of Earon, Colo; Pte. William Ross, now  in  England with Lambton 149; Cecil at home; Mrs. Harry Totten, of Bosanquet; Mrs. John  Kee; Mrs. B.C. Culley, wife of R.M. Serg Culley,  also  overseas with the 149th; Bertie, Winnie and Jean at home. She  is  also survived by five brothers and two  sisters:  David  of Battle Creek, Mich; Adam of Vancouver; William of Port Huron; James of New  Westminster, B.C.; John of Calgary; Mrs. J.T. Cairns, of  Kelloe, Man; and Mrs. G.E. McIntosh of Forest. Mrs. Cairns, David and  William attended the funeral.  The  deceased whose maiden name was Moriah Murray was a daughter  of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Murray, who lived on the 8th concession  of Plympton.  Mrs.  Murray moving to Forest after  her  husband's  death. After their marriage in 1887, Mrs. and Mrs. Ross lived in Oil  Springs for a few years and then came to Forest where they have since resided.

WILLIAM ROSS

William  Ross, well known Forest citizen, died on Thursday night  at the  home of his daughter, Mrs. H.D. Totten, Lake Road, Bosanquet,  in his  66th year. He had been in poor health for several years  and  had grown worse recently. For  many years he had been well known in the district as  a  cement contractor  and had done much work for the municipality of Forest.  In his earlier years he was a prominent athlete and took a great interest in the town's sporting events throughout his life. The  late Mr. Ross was born on the 12th Concession of Plympton,  the son  the the late Robert and Eliza (Benson) Ross. He kept a  store  in Camlachie  for about two years before his marriage to Maria Murray  of Plympton,  at Camlachie 40 years ago. They then moved to  Oil  Springs and came to Forest 35 years ago. Mrs. Ross died nine years ago. He  is survived by 10 children: Mrs. H.D. Totten of Bosanquet; Mrs. J.B.  Kee of  Sarnia;  Mrs. L. McIntyre of Pontiac, Mich; Mrs.  V.R. Maylor  of Ottawa;  Mrs. B.C. Culley and Miss Jean of Orillia; Milton  of  Miami, Florida;  Orville of Colorado; Cecil of Vancouver and William  of  Detroit;  one brother, Samuel Ross of Plympton, and five  sisters;  Mrs. Joseph  Cairns, Camlachie; Mrs. Charles McLean, Mrs. Dora  Lang,  Mrs. James Gilmore, and Mrs. John Douglas all of Forest. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, from the residence of  his son-in-law, H.D. Totten, to Beechwood Cemetery for interment. The service was conducted by Rev. A.C. Ristoul and the bearers were; John  Watson,  Alex Whyte, William Douglas,  Duncan  Smith,  Theodore Wilson and David Coultis.

HARRY D. TOTTEN

The  death  occurred at his home here yesterday of  Harry  D.  (Doc) Totten,  aged  55 years, well known resident of the district.  He  was provincial  fruit inspector for 15 years, serving Sarnia,  Forest  and surrounding  districts.  His death came as a shock  to  the  community although he has been in failing health for several months. Mr. Tottedn is survived by his wife and three children; Madeline  in Ottawa,  Margaret  and Osborne at home. A sister  Mrs.  Gilbert,  died several years ago. He  was  born at Paris, Ontario and when a young man came  with  his parents.  Dr. O. Totten and Mrs. Totten, to Forest. He farmed  on  the lake road in Bosanquet Township. In  1910  he married Edna Ross, daughter of the late  Mr.  and  Mrs. William  Ross of Forest. He was a member of the Ancient Free  and  Accepted Masons Lodge number, 263 at Forest. He was a charter member  of Forest  Chapter,  Order  of Eastern Star and aurdent  worker  for  the organization. The  funeral  will  be held from the family  residence  on  Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be made at Beechwood cemetery.

JOHN B. KEE

John  B. Kee, aged 57, a former resident of Sarnia and Forest,  died yesterday at his home in London, Ont. Mr. Kee was for many years one of the best known hardware  travelers in Western Ontario. He moved to London eight years ago. Surviving besides his wife, are a son, Murray of London and 3 daughters;  Mrs. Frank Connor and Miss Edna both of London and Mrs.  Milton Helman of Ottawa. The funeral will be held at Forest at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with  service at the McFarlane Funeral Home. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery, Forest.

The death occurred on Wednesday  afternoon of  John  Page, aged 86 years, one of the oldest  and  most  respected residents  of this community. The late Mr. Page had been  confined  to his bed for the past three years. He  was born in Fifeshire, Scotland, coming to Canada when 16  years of age. He was a resident of Bosanquet township until forty-two  years ago.  He then moved to a farm in Enniskillen, and eighteen  years  ago moved  to  Wyoming. For the past nine years he has resided with  his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Lunam, 8th line of Plympton. He was a  Presbyterian until the formation of the United Church of Canada, and in  politics was a liberal. He was married to his second wife, formerly Janet Lunam, pre-deceasing him by nine years. Surviving are the following sons and daughters; Danid  of  Basswood, Man; Mrs. Charles Kelman of  Nelson,  B.C.;  Mrs. James  Williamson and Thomas both of Train B.C.; Mrs. Andrew Lunam  of Plympton; Alexander of Rockland, B.C.; Andrew and Mrs. Oscar  Saunders of  Enniskillen and John of London. There are also  twelve  grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the Lunam home tomorrow at 2 o'clock.

OSCAR SAUNDERS

Oscar Saunders, of R.R.1 Petrolia, died Wednesday in Twilight Haves, Nursing  Home. He was born in Brooke Township and was the son  of  the late  Mr.  and Mrs. William Saunders. He worked in oil  production  at Marthaville, prior to taking up residence on 12th concession of Enniskillen where he farmed for the past 20 years. He was a member of  St. Andrew's B and E United Church. Surviving  is his wife the former Elizabeth Page, a  daughter,  Mrs. Ken Drope, of R.R.1 Petrolia; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral service will take place Saturday at 3 p.m. from William  Jay Funeral Home, Petrolia with Rev. J. Barnard officiating. Burial  will  be in Hillsdale Cemetery. Sympathy  may  be  expressed through donations to the Ontario Heart Fund.

Beloved wife of the late Kenneth  Drope, (25 June 1995). Dear mother of Helen and Carl Annett of R.R.2 wyoming, Keith  and Marjorie Drope of R.R.1 Petrolia and the late Murray  Drope (1974). Dear mother in law of Janet Drope of Petrolia. Dear grandmother  of Mark and Angela Annett, Debbra and Brian Allen, Len  and  Larry Annett,  Darlene and Darren Kirwen, David Drope and Jennifer  and  Rod Tramble.
