In  Victoria Hospital, London on Friday, 3rd November  1967,  Bertha Rosena  Acton,  beloved wife of William Harvey Johnston  in  her  64th year.  Dear  daughter of Mrs. Bertha Acton of Brooke Township, dear  mother of  Mrs. Calvin Woods (Marie) of Wyoming, Mrs. Evelyn Collins of  Warwick,  Keith of Sarnia, Clair of Watford, Ross of Point Edward and  21 grandchildren.  One sister Mrs. Pearl Westgate of Sarnia, one  brother Russell of Munroe, Michigan. Resting  at the Harper Funeral Home, Watford, where service will  be held on Monday 6 November at 2 p.m. Interment in Watford Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Jane Acton, 85 of Watford, died Thursday at Watford  Nursing home. She  is  survived  by four daughters; Mrs.  Norman  (Rita  Margaret) Dennis  of  Forest; Mrs. Dave (Ella May) Byers of Detroit;  Mrs.  W.E. (Fanny)  Griffiths  of Warren, Mich; and Mrs. Donald  (Mildred  Alice) Kelly  of Lansing, Mich. Two sons, Ivan of Sarnia and Victor  of  Wallaceburg as well as four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral  Saturday  at 2 p.m. from the Harper Funeral  Home,  Watford with Rev. Jake Fehr of Watford officiating. Burial in the Saunders Family Cemetery in Brooke Township.

MARY JANE ACTON

Mrs. Mary Jane Acton (Parker) wife of the late Richard Acton, passed away  on  Thursday 12 February 1976 in her 85th year  at  the  Warford Nursing Home. She was the mother of Mrs. Norman Dennis (Reta Margaret) of  Forest; Mrs.  Dave  Byers (Ella May) of Detroit; Mrs.  W.E.  Griffiths  (Fanny Joanna)  of  Warren,  Mich; Mrs. Donald E. Kelly  (Mildred  Alice)  of Lansing,  Mich; Ivan Elmer of Sarnia and Victor James of  Wallaceburg. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Haprer  Funeral  Home  was in charge of  funeral  arrangements  with funeral  service conducted on Saturday 14 February. Interment  was  in Saunders Family Cemetery, Brooke Twp. Pallbearers included; Jim Saunders, Carman and Ken Holbrook, Sanford Lucas,  Arthur Griffith and Cecil Saunders. Rev Jacob  Fehr  conducted the funeral service.

THOMAS ACTON

Thomas  Acton,  68  year old Sarnia resident who  retired  from  the Canadian  National  Railways  car shops only last  Thursday  after  18 years'  service,  was burned in his bed Monday night that  caused  his death a few hours later. It is believed he was smoking his pipe found lying on a small  table beside the bed, and set the mattress and bed clothes afire. Mrs.  Acton, awakening at 2 a.m. smelled smoke and hurrying  to  his room was unable to open the door as he had fallen between the door and bed. Physicians and firemen, hastily summoned, exthinguished the fire and removed the injured man to hospital where he died a few hours later. Mr.  Acton was born on the Warwick Townline, but moved to  the  10th line of Enniskillen where he farmed for many years. In 1910 he went to Sarnia  as  a Provincial police officer, later he worked  in  munition  plants  during the war, and then joined the C.N.R. shops where he  had served for 18 years. Surviving are his widow, formerly Annie Hall, and a family of  three daughters and two sons; also two sisters, Mrs. George Boddy of Detroit and Mrs. Margaret Fisher of Sarnia. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, with interment in Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.

ANNIE ACTON

Annie  Acton,  widow of Thomas Acton, died at her  home  140  Bright Street,  yesterday in her 78th year. She had been a member of  Central United Church. Her  husband predeceased her 10 years ago. She is survived by  three daughters  and  two sons; Miss Marcella Acton of Detroit;  Mrs.  Harry  Pearce  of  Port Huron; Mrs. Stanley McNeil of Sarnia; U.L.  Acton  of Sarnia;  Latimer Acton of Sarnia; a sister Miss Margaret Hall of  Sarnia; three brothers, George Hall of Racine, Wisconsin; William Hall of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and James hall of Cleveland, Ohio;  The funeral will be held from the D.J. Robb Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon at 2 O'clock with interment at Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.

WILLIAM HENRY SAUNDERS

 On  Friday,  the 6th June after a short illness, Mr.  W.H.  Saunders died at his residence, West half lot 24, con 12, Enniskillen, where he and his family have resided for the past 6 years. The deceased was well and favorably known, having been a resident of Marthaville for 15 years prior to his moving to the farm. He was a Methodist in religion and a Conserative in politics. He was the  son  of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Saunders, and  was  born  in Brooke  Township in 1851. In 1876 he married Sarah Jane,  daughter  of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lucas, Brooke. He  is survived by his wife, three sons and two  daughters:  Wallace living  in  Borneo, Fred living in Egypt, Oscar at home,  Mrs.  Robert Hall and Mrs. Wilson Butler of 12th con. east, Eniskillen. The funeral was held on Monday the 9th June and was largely  attended. Interment took place in Hillsdale cemetery Petrolia Ont. The  pallbearers  were  Messrs Jacob, Daniel  and  Thomas  Saunders, nephews, John, Thomas and Walter Lucas, brothers-in-law.

SARAH SAUNDERS

The death of Mrs. Sarah Jane Saunders, widow of William H. Saunders, occurred  at the home of her son, Oscar Saunders, con 12,  Enniskillen township,  early this morning. Mrs. Saunders, who was aged  78  years, had been in ill health for the past number of years. She  was  born near Watford and before her  marriage,  nearly  sixty years ago, was Miss Sarah Jane Lucas. Her husband pre-deceased her by 22 years. He had been an oil producer and farmer in the Copleston district and previously had conducted a butcher business in Watford.  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert Hall and Mrs. Wilson Butler both  of  Enniskillen,  three sons, Wallace of  London,  Frederick  of Windsor  and Oscar of Enniskillen. Five brothers, Robert, Absalom  and Thomas Lucas of Watford, Edward of Sarnia and Walter of Watford. The  funeral will be held from the home of her son, Oscar  Saunders, concession 12, Enniskillen Township on Wednesday afternoon.   Interment is to be made at Hillsdale cemetery, Petrolia.

MARTHA HALL

Mrs.  Martha  Hall Con 10 Enniskillen, died at her  residence  today following a short illness. She was 73 years of age. Wife  of Robert Hall, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William  H. Saunders,  and  was born in Brooke township. She was a member  of  St. Andrew's United Church. Surviving,  besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Bernard  Doerr of Inwood, a son Cecil at home, a sister, Mrs. Wilson Butler of Enniskillen and two brothers, Oscar Saunders of Enniskillen and Fred  Saunders of Windsor. The body is at the home, R.R.3, Petrolia and will remain there until Thursday when funeral services will be held at McKay and White Funeral Home Wyoming, at 2:30 p.m. Services  will  be conducted by the Rev. W.P. Newman,  St.  Andrew's United Church. Interment will be in the Wyoming cemetery.

MARTHA (Saunders)  HALL

Mrs. Robert Hall, 73, formerly Martha Saunders of Brooke Twp.,  died at her home on the 12th Con., Enniskillen on Tuesday. Surviving besides her husband, are one daughter, Mrs. Bernard  Doerr of  Inwood,  one  son Cecil at home, one sister  Mrs.  Wilson  Butler, Enniskillen, two brothers Oscar Saunders Enniskillen and Fred Windsor. Funeral service was conducted at the McKay and White funeral home in Wyoming on Thursday afternoon by the Rev. W.P. Newman of Inwood,  with interment in Wyoming Cemetery.

At  the C.E.E. Hospital, Petrolia on Thursday, 8 April 1971,  Robert S.  Hall  of R.R. 1 Petrolia, passed away at the age of 85. He  was  a well known retired farmer. He  was  the beloved husband of the late Martha Jane  Saunders,  and dear father of Mrs. Bernard (Hazel) Doerr of Inwood, and Cecil Hall of R.R. 1, Petrolia. Four grandchildren and six great grandchildren  also survive.   Funeral  services were held from McKay and White Funeral Home,  Wyoming, on Monday 12 April. Interment in the Wyoming Cemetery.

BERNARD DOERR

Mr. Bernard Doerr of Inwood passed away at Sarnia General Hospital on  21 April 1995 in his 87th year. Born in Foam Lake, Sask., the  son the the late William Doerr and Clara (nee McMurray) Sands. Mr. Doerr is survived by his wofe the former Hazel Hall, a daughter Donna  Payne and her husband John of Sarnia, his grandchildren  Nathan Payne of Sarnia, Michael Payne of Caldwell, New Jersey, Matthew  Payne of Toronto, Carrie Edwards of Bowmanville and Morgan Doerr of Calgary, his  sisters Anne Robertson of London and Margaret Worster of  Vancouver. Besides his parents, Mr. Doerr was predeceased by his son Kenneth Doerr (22 January 1995 and a brother Basil Sands of Vancouver. Mr.  Doerr  came  to Lambton County in 1918. He  later  farmed  and eventually operated a retail appliance and electrical store in Inwood,  Doerr Electric, from 1947 to 1978. Mr. Doerr was a former elder of Inwood United Church, Past Pres. of Alvinston  Rotary  Club, a member (over 50 years) and  Past  Mater  of Inwood Masonic Lodge #503 A.F. and A.M., Past Worthy Patron on  Inwood Chapter  #249  Order of the Eastern Star and a former trustee  of  the Village of Inwood. The  funeral service for the late Mr. Doerr was held on  Monday  24 April  1995  at 1:30 p.m. at the Needham-Jay Funeral  Home  with  Mrs. Jessie Dobbyn of Inwood United Church officiating. During  the service Marie McNally sang "The Lord is My  Shepherd," accompanied at the piono by Marie Shilson. The  pallbearers were Jerry Swan, Morley Shilson, Bob  Sawyer,  Mac Leitch, Burton Johnson and Don Annett. The flowerbearers were Nathan, Michael and Matthew Payne and Natasja Edelman. Interment in Alvinston Cemetery.

Funeral for Cecil Hall, 79, of R.R.1, Petrolia, was held Thursday at the  Needham-Jay  Funeral Hall, Petrolia, with Rev.  Robert  Dalgleish officiating. Mr.  Hall, who died 28 April at Twilight Haven in Petrolia, is  survived  by  his wife, Mary (Higgins) Hall; daughters, Anne  Sawyer  and Marilyn Jean Leitch; sister Hazel Doerr and five grandchildren.  Burial  was  at Wyoming Cemetery and the  pallbearers  were  Willard Hall, Arnold Butler, Pat Stonehouse, George Sawyer, Ernie Higgins  and Kenneth Doerr. Flower bearers were Cheryl, Christine and Nicole Sawyer and Brian, Kevin and Jennifer Leitch.

 WILSON BUTLER

Wilson  Butler, 74, of Concession 12 East Enniskillen Township  died Tuesday in Sarnia General Hospital. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Butler and a life long resident of Enniskillen Township.  He was a member of St. Andrew's Brooke and Enniskillen United Church. Mr.  Butler's wife, the former Dora Saunders, predeceased him.  Surviving  are  two  sons, Earl and Arnold and one  daughter,  Mrs.  Fred (Velma)  Moore,  all of Enniskillen Township; also  one  sister,  Mrs. Sawyer (Eva) O'Hara, R.R.2 Petrolia; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The  body  is at the family home, Lot 26 Concession  12  Enniskillen Township until Friday morning when removal will be made to William Jay Funeral Home, Petrolia for service at 2 p.m. Rev. Robert Stokes officiating. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery.

 FRED MOORE

Fred  Moore,  61, lifelong resident of  Concession  8,  Ennniskillen Township died Saturday in CEE Hospital, Petrolia. He was the son of Byron and the late Mrs. Moore and operated a  farm at his former address for many years. He was a member of St. Andrew's Brooke and Enniskillen United Church and a member of the board of managers. He  is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Butler;  his  father, Byron  Moore; two sons, Ray and Ross, all of Concession 8  Enniskillen Township. Five grandchildren also survive. Funeral  services  will be held from the William Jay  Funeral  Home, Petrolia, Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. J. Barnard officiating. Burial in Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.

A highly esteemed district man and a line-long resident of the  10th line Brooke Township, Arthur Wellington Griffith, 85, died on 28th May at his home Lot 3 Concession 11, seven miles east of Petrolia. He  had been in poor health since January. Born and raised on the 10th line, Mr. Griffith was married to Martha Jane  Saunders and they spent all of their married life on  the  Griffiths farm. Two years ago, they observed the 60th anniversary of their marriage. He was known as a successful farmer and was particularly  interested in keeping good horses. For nearly thirty years, he carried on a  life and  motor car insurance agency wich he disposed of a couple of  years ago. He  was  a member of the St. Andrew's B. & E. United  Church  and  a member of its Official Board. Politically he was a stalwart  Conservative.  Held  in high regard for his sterling  character  and  pleasing manner, his passing will be mourned by a wide circle of friends. He is survived by his widow, four daughters and a son; Mrs.  Russell (Roberta) Graham of Enniskillen; Mrs. Clayton (Velma) Acton of Warwick Township;  Mrs. Vance (Edna) Kersey of Watford; John of  Brooke  Township; Mrs. Vance (Hazel) Jarding of Enniskillen; with 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and a brother Edward of Windsor. The  funeral on Sunday afternoon was largely attended,  the  service being  conducted  at the Harper Funeral Home, Watford,  by  Rev.  G.B. Puntar of the B & E United Church. The pallbearers were 6 grandsons. Jim Graham, Robert Jardine,  Ralph Kersey, Douglas Acton, Barry and Arthur Griffith. Flowerbearers were 3 grandsons, Ray Jardine, Garry Kersey, Ken Acton and three nephews, Bert, Edward and Lorn Trowbridge. Burial was in Saunders Private Cemetery, Brooke Township.

Velma  G.  (Griffith)  Acton of RR#3, Watford, passed  away  in  St. Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia on Tuesday 21 May 1985. She was the beloved wife of Clayton Acton and dear mother of Doug of RR#3  Watford, Donna (Mrs. William Gray) of Mt. Clemens, Michigan  and Ken and Lorne of Watford. Also  survived by eleven grandchildren and two  great-grandchildren, as  well as two sisters, Reuberta (Mrs. Russell Graham) of Inwood  and Mrs. Edna Kersey of Watford and a brother John of RR#7 Alvinston.  She was predeceased by a sister Hazel Jardine. The funeral service was held at the Harper Funeral Home, Watford, on Thursday afternoon with Rev. Christine Jerrett officiating. Service  as  pallbearers  were Arthur Griffith,  Ralph  Kersey,  Jim Graham, Ray Jardine, Grant Kelly and Lloyd Moffatt. Flowerbearers were Brian, Howard and Michael Acton and John Everett. Interment was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Brooke Twp.

In  Sarnia General Hospital on Saturday 3rd April 1993,  Edna  Pearl Griffith,  in  her 86th year of Bestview Health  Care  Centre,  Sarnia (formerly  of Watford).  Beloved wife of the late Vance Edward Kersey (1972), dear mother  of Gary  and  his wife Gale of Sarnia and Ralph and his  wife  Sandra  of  Watford.  Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6  great-grandchildren. Dear  sister of Roberta Graham of Petrolia. Predeceased by  2  sisters Velma  Acton  and Hazel Jardine and one brother  John  Griffith.  Dear sister-in-law of Marguerite (Dolly) Harper of Watford and Madeline  of Carsland, Alberta. ABSALOM SAUNDERS

An  old and well known resident of Brooke passed away on Tuesday  in the  person  of Mr. Absalom Saunders, proprietor of  Saunders's  stave mill at Sutorville. Deceased  had been in failing health for the past year, and the  end was not unexpected. Mr.  Saunders was born in Montague, Lanark Co., about 70 years  ago, and came to Brooke when 18 years of age. He was the eldest son of  the late  Thomas Saunders, who first settled on the 6th line,  where  they erected a saw mill, one of the first in this section. About  24 years ago he removed to what is now known  as  Sutorville, where he carried on an extensive business for many years in the  stave and saw mill line. His  business  interests gave him a  large  acquaintance  throughout Western  Ontario, and his record for uprightness and fair dealing  was never  questioned,  and  he was a man who made many  friends  and  few enemies. His  home was an open house, and no needy person was ever sent  away without partaking of his generous hospitality.  He  leaves  behind  a family of six  sons;  Abraham,  Isaac,  Jacob, Thomas,  Daniel and John; and four daughters. Jane, Mrs.  Eadie,  Mrs. Palmer,  and Mrs. Reid of London. His wife predeceased him  about  ten years ago. Four brothers also survive, Isiah and Thomas G., of Idaho, Elijah of Alberta  and  William H., of Marthaville, and one sister,  Mrs.  James Lett of Brooke. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Mr. McCulloch conducted  the service at the house, and the interment took  place  in the family burying ground.

DANIEL SAUNDERS

Daniel  Saunders,  one of the best known farmers  of  Brooke  Twp., passed  away  in Sarnia Hospital on Tuesday, aged 72 years.  Born  and raised  on 9 sideroad, he lived his entire lifetime in the  Sutorville district and was a member of Christ Church. Surviving  are his widow, formerly Ellen Butler of Warwick  and  two daughters,  Mr. Reg. Thorne (Letha) on a nearby farm, Miss  Beulah,  a teacher in Brooke-Warwick townline school, one grandson Elton  Thorne; also two brothers Thomas Saunders of Bickford, Moore Twp., John  Saunders of London and one sister Mrs. William Reid of London. The  body rested at the Harper Funeral Home Watford  until  Thursday when  service  was  conducted there at 2 o'clock  by  his  former  and present rectors, Rev. James Nosford of Woodstock and Rev. John  Graham of Watford and Brooke Anglican Churches. Interment was in Saunders family cemetery, 9 sideroad, Brooke.

Mrs. Ellen Saunders, 84, died in Sarnia General Hospital  Wednesday. She is survived by two daughters Mrs. Reginald (Letha) Thorne and Miss Beulah Saunders and a grandson Brooke, all of Watford. Funeral  service  will be held Friday at 2 p.m.  at  Christ  Church, Sutorville. Arrangements by Harper Funeral Home Watford. Interment Saunders family cemetery 9th sideroad, Brooke.

REGINALD THORNE

Reginald  Thorne, age 84 years, a resident of Watford for  the  past five  years,  passed away in Strathroy Middlesex General  Hospital  on Tuesday, 19 July 1977, after a lengthy illness. He  was born in Norfolk County, England in 1893, the youngest  of  a family  of eleven. He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and became  a  farm labourer near Kerwood until he answered his country's call during World War I. He saw active service for two years in France. On his return to Canada in 1919, he worked for Mr. Richard  Williamson in Brooke Township until he purchased a nearby farm, now owned  by his grandson, Everett Thorne. Surviving are his widow, the former Letha Saunders, one son,  Elton, 4  grandchildren: Everett, Dale, Ellen (Mrs. Dale Wilson) and Gale  at home.  Four  great grandchildren; Kendra Wilson,  Jeffrey  and  Steven Thorne and Kara Thorne.The  body rested at the Harper Funeral Home until Thursday  when  it was taken to Trinity Anglican for burial service. Pallbearers  were  former farm neighbours; Eugene  Holbrook,  Albert Shirley, Eldon Higgins, Fred Kidd, Orville Hall and Isreal Gagnier. Honorary bearers were six Legion members: William Swan, Dave  Smith, Ed Burns, Jack Kersey, Orville Edwards and Mr. Derbyshire. Interment was in the Saunders Family Cemetery, Brooke Twp.

Mary  Letha  (Saunders) Thorne of the Watford Nursing  Home,  passed away  in St. Joseph's Hospital Sarnia on Thursday, 1 November 1984  in her 86th year. She  was the dear mother of Elton and wife Jean of RR#3 Watford  and dear  grandmother of Everett and wife Mary, Dale and wife Mary,  Ellen and husband Dale and Gail all of RR#3 Watford. Also  survived  by 10 great grandchildren as well as a  sister  Mrs. Beulah Latimer of Watford. The  funeral service was held at Trinity Anglican Church Watford  on Saturday morning with Rev. John Holland officiating. The Harper Funeral Home, Watford was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Saunders Family Cemetery, Brooke Twp.

Wesley  Latimer, 63, a native of Essex county, who has  resided  on con.12  at  the  Brooke-Enniskillen townline for the  past  11  years, passed  away at his home on Saturday. He had suffered a coronary  last June, and was confined to his bed the past nine weeks. Surviving  are his wife, formerly Beulah Saunders, of  Watford;  two sons  by his first wife, the late Ilo Squibb; also four sisters;  Mrs. George Dales (Edith) and Mrs. Archie McIntosh (Em) both of Leamington, Mrs.  N.A. Clifford (Sadie) of Hamilton, Mrs. Rex Campbell  (Florence) of Willowdale, and one brother, Hugh of Leamington. Two  sisters, Mrs. Webster Buchanan (Elizabeth), Mrs. Joseph  Mellow (Mary) and three brothers, George, Robert and Will, all predeceased. Rested  at Harper Funeral Home Watford, where service was  conducted on  Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Wm., Mercer of Trinity  Anglican  church and interment was in the Saunders family cemetery, Brooke. Pallbearers  were  Willis McIntosh, Willis Dales,  Wilbert  Latimer, William Mellow, Bert Sweet and Garnet Rundle. Flowerbearers were Wilton Johnson, John Rundle, Cecil Lane.

Mrs.  Albert Fuller, formerly of Watford, passed away last  Thursday 23 March in Strathmere Lodge, at Strathroy. Mrs. Fuller, formerly Ada Olive Crawford, was in her 84th year,  the wife of the late George Albert Fuller, of Kerwood and Hyde Park. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. A. Mallalieu (Ethel) of London, and two  sons,  William of Lambeth and Harry of Watford. Mrs.  Fuller  was predeceased by two sons, Clarence of Strathroy and Fred of  Ridgetown. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Dr. D.A. Brydon officiated at the funeral service on Saturday afternoon at Denning Brothers Funeral Home in Strathroy. Pallbearers  included four grandsons, Ray Mallalieu,  Barry,  Ronald and  David  Fuller,  and two nephews, Kenneth  Richardson  and  Gordon Crawford. John L. Fuller 87 year old resident of Arkona  and a  former  Lambton County councillor, died this morning  at  his  home following a recent illness. Born  in  Warwick Township, near Watford, Mr. Fuller farmed  for  a number  of years and about 47 years ago moved to the village where  he went  into  partnership with his brother, Wesley Fuller. He  had  been living retured for the past few years. Mr.  Fuller  was an elder in the United Church and for  some  years represented Arkona in the county council. He was one of the organizers of the Rock Glen Power Company which supplied Arkona with  electricity before Hydro came into use. The deceased is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Donald  Sutherland of  Kincardine,  Mrs. Stanley Janny of Bosanquet Township,  Mrs.  J.L. Brown  of  Arkona and Miss Elva Fuller at home; three  sisters,  Mrs. Frank Lamb and Mrs. William Sitllington of Arkona and Mrs. T.H. Barnes of Toronto,  and  two brothers, Wesley Fuller of  Arkona  and  Thomas Fuller of Warwick. A  private funeral will be held at the family residence  on  Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Donald  A. Sutherland of Arkona and formerly of  Kincardine  passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, London last Wednesday the 25th October. Mr. Sutherland, who was in his 87th year is survived by his wife  Maud (Fuller) Sutherland and also several nieces and nephews. He  had served in World War I from 1914 to 1918 and also  in  World War II, retiring with the rank of Major. The death of William H. Sitlington, well known  resident of Arkona occurred at his home here on Saturday evening following a  lengthy illness. Mr. Sitlington was born 83 years ago  in  Adelaide Township  and  with the exception of some years spent farming  in  the west lived all his life in this district. He was a faithful member of the United Church and was also a member of the session. Surviving are his widow and one daughter-in-law,  Mrs. Ch.  H. Sitlington and two granddaughters, Mary and Betty all of  Calgary, Alberta. A private funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the family residence. The Rev. A.C. Thomas Henry Fuller, who has been  in  failing health  for  several years, died at his home on  the  2nd  concession, south, in the Warwick township, Wednesday morning. He was in his  83rd year and had lived his entire lifetime on the farm where he was born. Mrs. Fuller, who was formerly Nillie Hagle, predeceased him on  8th April 1937. Surviving are a family of one daughter and two sons.  Mrs. Edwin Young, Earl and Clare Fuller all of Warwick; also three  sisters and  one brother, Mrs. C.H. Barnes, Toronto; Mrs. W. Arthur C. "Mike" Stapleford, of 1363 Lecaron, Sarnia died on the 4th April  1988  at St. Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia. Born in Watford  and  a resident of Sarnia, he was 69 years of age and a Polysar Limited retiree. Mr.  Stapleford  was the son of the late Major and Mrs.  Richard  H. Stapleford of Watford. Surviving  are his wife Alice M. (Luckham), a daughter Elizabeth  M. and husband David F. Fleming of Guelph, a son Dr. Richard G. of  Windsor and his wife Virginia (Kliorikaitis) and 3 grandchildren, Jessica, Justin  and  Scott. Also surviving are 2 sisters Mrs. G.  E.  Tait  of Toronto and Miss Marjory (Mons) Stapleford of St. Clair Shores, Michigan,  and a brother Robert L. (Charlie) of London. He was  predeceased by a brother Richard Harvey in 1983. Throughout the period of his residence in Sarnia, Mr. Stapleford was active in community affairs and service. A member and former elder  of Grace  United  Church, he was also a member and former member  of  the Board  of  Directors of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club.  At  various times  he served on boards and committees associated with the  Lambton Health  Unit, Victorian Order of Nursing, Family  Counselling  Centre, Association  of Ontario Boards of Health, Cancer Society,  Boy  Scouts Association and the Sarnia and District Personnel Association. In 1983 he was made the first life member of the Sarnia and District Personnel Association  and received one of thee Citizen of the Year Awards  from the City of Sarnia. He was also one of the recipients of the  Province of Ontario's Bicentennial Medals in 1983 in recognition of his  community service over the years. Friends  were received by the family at the D.J. Robb Funeral  Home, Sarnia from 7- 9 p.m. on Wednesday, then to Grace United Church for  a memorial service on Thursday, the 7th April at 2 p.m. Interment followed on Friday in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

SERLE DAVID LUCAS

Serle D. Lucas born 13 June 1895, died 2 June 1972, Married 11 April 1925 to Marjorie VonZuben. Mr. Lucas died at Pointe Clarke in Kincardine General Hospital. Son of Richard and Christina (Trowbridge) Lucas. Born in Brooke. After his marriage,  they  lived  on the family farm in Brooke, then  moved  to Detroit. In 1932 he moved to Listowel and worked at the Andrew Malcolm Furniture  Company.  A veteran of both wars, after discharge  in  1946,  he moved  to Dutton where he was a Raleigh Salesman. He retired in  1958. Since 1968, he and his wife have lived at Pointe Clarke. Serle D. Lucas of Pointe Clarke, formerly of Listowel, died  Friday, 2  June 1972 in Kincardine General Hospital. He was 77 years  of  age, and had been in failing health for several years. Death was attributed to  a heart attack. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard  Lucas,  he was born in Brooke Township 13 January 1895. On the 11th April 1925 he married Marjorie VonZuben of Listowel  and they  lived  for a time on the family farm in Brooke  Township  before moving to Detroit. In  1932 they came to Listowel, where Mr. Lucas was employed at  the Andrew Malcolm Furniture Factory. He was a veteran of both the First and Second World Wars.  Following his discharge from the armed services in the spring of 1946 they moved to Dutton where he was employed as a Raleigh salesman. Failing health forced his retirement in 1958. Since 1968 he and  his wife have lived at Pointe Clarke. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Anne) Cox  of  Detroit, twin grandsons, two sisters,  Mrs.  Franklin  (Ruby) Smith, and Mrs. Paul (Goldie) Bradley both of Sarnia. Mr.  Lucas had previously bequeathed his body to the  University  of Western Ontario for medical research. Arrangements  were in charge of the McLennan-McCreath Funeral  Home, Ripley.

A  native son of Watford who has been a member of the Sarnia  public school  teaching staff for the last 29 years, Franklin S.  Smith,  57, died  suddenly  from a heart attack at his home, Richards  Street  on Wednesday. He had been in poor health in recent years, but was thought to be improving. As the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Smith, he was raised in Watford. After settling in Sarnia, he was married to Ruby Lucas, of Brooke, who survives, with a family of three daughters and five  sons: Cathherine,  Darleen  and Carol Anne, at home:  Robert  of  Brantford, Kenneth, Ronald, Ralph and Ross all of Sarnia. Resting  at Robbs funeral home, Sarnia, where services will be  conducted Friday at 1.30 p.m. with burial in Watford cemetery. A special Masonic service was conducted by members of Tuscan  Lodge, AF&AM this Thursday evening at 7.30.

Ruby  (Lucas) Smith, 75 of 205 Vidal St., S., died Friday at  Sarnia General Hospital. Widow  of  Franklin  S. Smith, she is survived by  sons,  Robert  ofLondon, Ron of Warwick, Ralph and Ross of Sarnia; daughters, Mrs.  Don (Catherine)  Wardell and Mrs. Don (Darlene) Turnbull, both of Sarnia, and  Mrs. Terry (Carol) McCullough of Corunna; 17 grandchildren and  2 great grandchildren. At St. Joseph's Hospital on Sunday 15 November 1970, Kenneth  Franklin  Smith,  of 1300 Kim St. Beloved husband of  Dorothy  Jean  (Bowd) Smith  and dear father of Laurie Ann and Cheryl Lynne, beloved son  of Mrs.  Ruby  Smith of Sarnia and dear brother of Mrs.  Don  (Catherine) Wardell,  Mrs. Don (Darlene) Turnbull, Miss Carol Anne Smith,  Ronald, Ralph and Ross all of Sarnia and Robert of London. Resting at the Stewart Funeral Home (George at College) for  funeral service on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. (The officers and members  of St. Paul's Lodge No 601 will hold a Memorial Service  in  the funeral  home on Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock.  Interment  Lakeview Cemetery.

GOLDIE (LUCAS) BRADLEY

Mrs. Goldie Lucas Bradley, aged 62 years of 103 N. Christina Street, died Tuesday 24 July 1973 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born  in Brooke Township, she was the daughter of the late  Mr.  and Mr. Richard J. Lucas. Mrs.  Bradley was a member of the Catholic Women's League of  Sacred Heart Church. Surviving are her husband J. Paul Bradley, one  daughter Mrs.  A.J.  (Paula) Bates of Dorval P.Q., three sons,  J.P.  (Pat)  of Ottawa,  J.A.  Drew of Sarnia, C.R. (Dick) of Chicago, a sister  Mrs. R.S. (Ruby) Smith of Sarnia, eight grandchildren and  several  nieces and nephews. She  was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. Mrs.  Fred (Pearl)  Peaslee  of Brooke, Frank and Lorne Lucas  of  Sarnia,  Mrs. Gordon (Mary) Luckham of Sarnia, Serle Lucas of Pointe Clarke and Mrs. Ernest (Ada) Showler of Glencoe. Resting at the Mackenzie and Blundy Funeral Home 431 North Christina Street after 2 p.m. Funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church,  Charlesworth Drive at Decaron Avenue on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial  at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Prayers at the  Funeral  Home Thursday at 8:15 p.m.

SANFORD LUCAS

Sanford J. Lucas a  former  reeve  of Alvinston,  died  yesterday afternoon at  Woodstock,  following  a lingering illness. He had been in that city for treatment but a  week, when he was taken ill with pneumonia. Surviving are his wife, one son Douglas, and one daughter Helen,  at home. He was one of the best known men in this community, having conducted an implement business here for many years, prior to which he farmed in Brooke Township. He had been retired for about six years and continued to reside here. The funeral will be held from his residence at Alvinston, on Wednesday afternoon and interment will be made in the Alvinston Cemetery.

SUSANNAH LUCAS

Services for Mrs. Susannah Lucas, 73, who died in Arkona, on Wednesday  the 22nd April, were conducted in the Black Funeral Home,  Alvinston and interment made in Alvinston cemetery. The pallbearers were Russell and Frank Muma, Harvey Leggate,  Frank, Irwin and Arnold Lucas. Formerly  Susannah Waterman, she was born in Warwick  Townshp,  near Arkona.  Following her marriage she was clerk of Alvinston  for  many years. He husband Sanford Lucas, died in 1937. She went to Arkona  two years ago. Surviving  are one son, Douglas of Arkona, one daughter Mrs.  Harold Sercombe  RR 4 Parkhill, three sisters, Mrs. Fred  Sercombe  Bosanquet Twp,  Mrs. Mary Muma Arkona and Mrs. Lenora Hall Parker  Nursing  Home Watford.

JOSEPH DOUGLAS LUCAS

Joseph  Douglas Lucas, 51 of Arkona, died Tuesday in Sarnia  General Hospital. Surviving  are  his wife the former Grace Hogg, three  sons,  Randy, Ronald and Sanford and one daughter, Dawn all at home. One sister Mrs. Harold (Helen) Sercombe, of R.R. 5, Parkhill. Funeral  services  will be held today in the chapel of  the  Douglas Gilpin Funeral Home, Thelford at 2 p.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Chandeboye, Ont.

JOSEPH DOUGLAS LUCAS

Friends and relatives throughout the district were shocked to learn of the sudden passing on Tuesday of this week of Joseph Douglas Lucas, 50, well known Arkona hardware merchant. During the present busy furnace installation season he had taken one of  the firm's trucks to Forest, and returning on Warwick's 6th  con., due  to  the road work on Forest-Arkona townline, when he  suffered  a coronary, the truck went out of control and strayed into the  opposite ditch. Mr.  Lucas was removed to Sarnia General Hospital, where  he  passed away  that evening. The shock of his sudden passing is keenly felt  by the entire community. Surviving  are his wife the former Grace Hogg, children Randy,  Ronald, Sanford and Dawna, all at home, also a sister Helen (Mrs.  Harold Sercombe) RR5 Parkhill. Resting at the Douglas Gilpin Funeral Home, Thedford, for service in the chapel this hursday at 2 p.m. Interment in St. James Church  Cemetery, Clandeboye.
