MARY (Lusk) LUCAS

The death of Mrs. Thomas Lucas took place at her home on the  London Road on Friday, 14 August. Mrs. Lucas was 78 years of age. Her  health had been breaking for some time past and the end was not unexpected. Mrs. Lucas leaves to mourn her loss besides a husband, 8 sons and  2 daughters:  John, Andrew, Matilda (Mrs. James Bryson), James,  Robert, Thomas Jr, George, William, Mary (Mrs. Richard Bryson) and Samuel. Mrs.  Lucas  was born in Perth County. Her maiden  name  being  Mary Lusk. Fifty-six years ago she married Mr. Thomas Lucas and since  then has resided on the London Road. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to the Wyoming Cemetery.

THOMAS LUCAS

On  Friday 18th March there passed away after two weeks  of  intense suffering one of the oldest of the pioneers of Plympton. To these men of the early days, we owe much. They manifested  indomitable  courage and displayed untiring energy in clearing the  forests and laying the foundations of this country. Mr.  Lucas was born in the township of Beckwith, Lanark County  near Ottawa  in the month of December 1825. When, as a young man  he  came with  his parents to the township of Brooke, and from there  moved  to Plympton in 1851 where he hewed out for himself a home in the primeval forest. After spending six months in Plympton, he took his bride, Miss Mary  Lusk,  of Wanstead to Port Huron, where they were married  by  a Methodist Minister. The  trip to Sarnia being made in a lumber wagon drawn by oxen.  His wife predeceased him on the 13th August 1908. The  family was an old fashioned one consisting of  ten  children: John of London Road, Andrew, Matilda (Mrs. John Bryson) of Reece's Corner, Thomas 2nd line Plympton, George and William, London Road, James (Deceased), Robert on the old homestead (with whom his father resided), Mary Ellen (Mrs. Richard Bryson) and Samuel of London Road.

ANDREW LUCAS

The death occurred in Sarnia general hospital this morning, after  a long  illness, of Andrew Lucas, age 71 years, a resident of  the  city for  a long time. The late Mr. Lucas was formerly an employee  of the John Goodison Thresher Co Ltd., but had lived retired for some years. He  is survived by his wife, Lucinda and one daughter.  The  funeral will  be held from the residence 279 Maxwell Street on Sunday at  4.30 p.m. to Lakeview Cemetery, with a service at the home at 4 o'clock.

LUCINDA LUCAS

Mrs.  Lucinda  Lucas, aged 83, widow of Andrew Lucas,  died  in  the Sarnia General Hospital yesterday. The  funeral  will  be held from the family  residence  279  Maxwell Street at 3 p.m. Friday to Lakeview Cemetery. The deceased was born at St.  Clair,  Mich., but was brought to Errol, near Camlachie as a baby and was raised there. After her marriage she and her husband farmed near Watford and later on the 6th line of Plympton. They  retired about 20 years ago and took up their  residence  here. Mr.  Lucas  died in 1929. The deceased was a member of  Parker  Street United Church. Mrs. Alfred F. Cowley is a daughter and there are also 2 sisters and 2  brothers. They are Mrs. C. Calderbank and Mrs. K. LaForge  of  this city.  George  Maloney of Millbank Ont and Richard Maloney  of  London Ont. There are also 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson.

LENA MAY COWLEY

Lena  May Cowley, 83, of 142 St. Vincent Street died Friday  at  St. Joseph's Hospital Sarnia. Born at Lakefield Ont., she lived in the Sarnia area most  of  her life  and  was  a member of the Parker Street United  Church  and  the Friendship Club of the Church. Widow  of  Alfred Cowley, she is survived by daughters,  Mrs.  James Gould  (Margaret) and Mrs. Lloyd Evans (Verna) both of Sarnia, also  a son Roy of Sarnia: 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral will be held from the D.J. Robb Funeral Home Tuesday at  1 p.m.  with  burial  at Lakeview Cemetery. Sympathy  may  be  expressed through the heart Foundation. Friends will be received at the  Funeral Home commencing Sunday afternoon.

At  Victoria  Hospital, London on Monday 25 March 1991,  Roy  Alfred Cowley, age 67 years of Durand St., Sarnia. Beloved husband of Phyllis (Gregory)  Cowley. Dear father of Linda and her husband Harley  Levitt of  Sarnia,  Gregory and his wife Karen Cowley of Sarnia.  Brother  of Mrs.   Margaret Gould, Mrs. Verna Evans all of Sarnia. Loving  grandfather of Beau, Kyle, Sara Levitt and Jason Cowley. Mr.  Cowley was employed with Presto-lite with 38 years  of  service and  was with the Lambton County School Board until his retirement  in 1988 and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #62. Visiting at the Stewart Funeral Home (George at College) on  Wednesday  2-4  and 7-9. Funeral service in the chapel on Thursday  at  2:00 o'clock with Rev. Gwyn Tucker of Parker Street United Church officiating followed by cremation. As  an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to  the Canadian Cancer Society.

FUNERALS

Funeral and committal services for Roy Alfred Cowley, 67, of  Durand Street, Sarnia-Clearwater, were held on Thursday at the Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Gwyn Tucker officiating. Cremation followed. Mr.  Cowley,  who  died 25 March is survived by  his  wife,  Phyllis Cowley;  daughter, Linda Levitt and her husband Harley;  son,  Gregory and  his wife Karen; sisters, Margaret Gould and Verna Evans, all  of Sarnia;  and four grandchildren, Beau, Kyle and Sara Levitt and  Jason Cowley.

JAMES LUCAS

Death very suddenly came to Mr. James Lucas, London Road, on  Thursday last. Some time ago, he was injured by a threashing engine and since  then has  not enjoyed perfect health. Nothing serious however, was  anticipated  and  his death on Thursday from heart failure came as  a  great shock to his family and large circle of friends. He was 48 years 10 months and 9 days of age and leaves to mourn  his loss a widow and a family of small children. The  funeral  took  place on Sunday 22 January 1910  from  his  late residence, lot 18 con 4 Plympton to the Wyoming Cemetery where internment took place. The Rev. J.M. Gunne of St. John's Church had charge of the services. The Enterprise extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.

JAMES LUCAS

Plympton, Ont: James Lucas of this township, died very  suddenly  on Thursday  10 February. Mr. Lucas, along with his brother, Sam, was  in the bush, cutting and gathering poles when all at once, he fell  over, unconscious and died in his brother's arms. The remains were  interred in the Wyoming Cemetery.

JOHN LUCAS

Wyoming   March 1...John Lucas of the London Road, a life long  resident of Plympton township died on Saturday having suffered a stroke on Sunday,  February 21st. Had Mr. Lucas lived until Wednesday  he  would have celebrated his 76th birthday. He was born on London Road on  the farm now occupied by Robert Lucas, about three-quarters of a mile East of Reece's Corners, and resided there until he moved across the  road, where he spent the greater part of his life, until his home was burned down a short time ago. Since then he has resided with his  daughter, Mrs. Ambrose Brown, from whose home the funeral was to be held today. His wife predeceased him on the 25 March 1926. Mr. Lucas was one of a  family  of ten. Two brothers Andrew of Sarnia and James  of  London Road predeceased him. He is survived by 5 brothers, George, William, Robert, Samuel all of the  London Road, Thomas of the second line: two sisters,  Mrs.  Frank Misner and Mrs. Richard Bryson of the London Road; two daughters  Mrs. Ambrose  Brown  of  London Road and Mrs. Les  McLachlan  of  Petrolia, Samuel Jr of London Road and 9 grandchildren.

Wyoming, 4 March: The funeral of John Lucas, who died recently,  was held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Brown, of the London  Road, on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Mr. McFarlane of Wyoming, conducted the service,  interment being made in Wyoming Cemetery. The pallbearers were six nephews, Edgar Lucas, Russell Lucas, Thomas Lucas, Martian Nutt, Grant Nutt and Harry Buries. The funeral was largely attended, relatives being present from  Port Huron,  Sarnia,  Watford, Petrolia, Belmont,  Sylvan,  Thedford,  St. Mary's, Stratford and Grand Bend.

VIOLET LUCAS

Mrs.  Violet Lucas, 86 died Thursday at Twilight  Haven,  Petrolia. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Margaret) Robinson of RR2, Dresden, five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Gladys Farris of Bright's Grove.
She  was predeceased by one daughter Doris, in 1970. Funeral  services  will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the McKay and  White Funeral Home, Wyoming. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery. The Rev. Lorimer of Dresden will officiate.
Visitations at the funeral home start this evening.

AMBROSE BROWN

Wyoming:  8  August. Ambrose Brown, aged 67, died Saturday  after  a short illness, at his home on the London Road in Plympton Township. Born  in  Wyoming, the son of the late John Brown and his  wife  the former  Ellen Hammond, Mr. Brown spent his life in the  Wyoming  area, where he was well known as a carpenter. He  is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Lucas; by  two  daughters,  Mrs. John Price of Warwick and Mrs. William Price at  home;  by two sons, Stanley Brown of Oil Springs and Harold Brown of Sarnia; and by seven grandchildren. The body will be at his home on the London Road until Tuesday afternoon,  when  funeral services will be conducted at 2  o'clock  at  the McKay  and  White  Funeral Home in Wyoming by the  Rev. John  Milton, pastor of Wyoming Baptist Church. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery.

At  St. Joseph's Hospital on Monday 4 September 1989, Bessie  Viola (Helps)  Brown, age 69, wife of Harold E. Brown of 1311  Exmouth  St., Clearwater, mother of Wayne and his wife Kathleen of Port Lambton  and Mrs. George (Betty) McPhee of Petrolia, 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, sister of James Helps, Cecil Helps and  Mrs.  Beatrice Wilson,  all  of Sarnia, Mrs. James (Helen) Maidment of  Petrolia  and Mrs. Jack (Pearl) Morgan of Windsor.
Predeceased by a sister Mrs. Fenton (Myrtle) Leckie and two brothers Clifford and Henry Helps.
Resting at the D.J. Robb Funeral Home where funeral service will  be held in the chapel on Thursday, 7th September at 1:00 p.m. Interment  will  be in Blackwell Cemetery. The family  will  receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday between 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. As an expression of sympathy donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (350 N. Funeral  for  Bessie Viola (Helps) Brown, 74, of 1311  Exmouth  St., Clearwater, has taken place on Friday from the chapel of the D.J. Robb Funeral  Home  with  Rev. Jamie Cairns of the  First  Baptist Church, Petrolia, officiating, assisted by Pastor Brian Horrobin. Cheryl Cassin sang Sweet By And By. Burial was in Blackwell Cemetery and the pallbearers were Neil  Sinclair,  Larry  Prince, Tom Smith. Marty Maidment,  Bill  Clements  and Luigi Salvatore.
Mrs. Brown, who died Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital, is survived by her husband, Harold E. Brown; son Wayne and his wife Kathleen;  daughter,   Betty  (Mrs.  George  McPhee);  14 grandchildren;  11   great-grandchildren;  sisters, Beatrice Wilson, Helen (Mrs. James  Maidment) and Pearl (Mrs. Jack Morgan) and brothers, James and Cecil Helps.
Predeceased  by a sister, Myrtle (Mrs. Fenton Leckie) and  brothers, Clifford and Henry Helps.

MABEL (Lucas)  McLACHLAN

Mrs. Leslie McLachlan, 54, the former Mabel Lavina Lucas, of  London Road,  R.R. 2, Wyoming, died monday in the C.E.E. Hospital,  Petrolia, after an illness of several months. Besides her husband, a well known cattle buyer in the district,  she is survived by three sons, Garnet, Duncan and William and one  brother Sam Lucas of Camlachie. During  her  husband's illness of the past few years,  the  deceased successfully carried out his cattle buying business. Funeral service Wednesday at the William Jay Funeral Home,  Petrolia was  conducted  by the Rev. D. M. Guess, Wyoming  United  Church  with interment in the Wyoming Cemetery. The pall bearers were Allan Walker, Harry Gibbs, Harry Byers,  Freeman Gallie, William and Archie McLachlan.

WILLIAM SMITH

In  Plympton on Sunday 27 December 1903 William Smith of the  London Road aged 37 years and 2 days. The news of the death of William Smith, of the London Road on Sunday was received by his friends with feelings of deep regret.
The deceased had been at work doing some chores about the barn  when he suddenly left and entered the house telling his wife something  was wrong.  Almost  as  soon as he had finished speaking  he  fell  dead. Death  was caused by the bursting of an artery. The family  have  the sympathy of their friends in their sudden bereavement. The remains were interred in the Wyoming cemetery yesterday.

RICHARD BRYSON

Wyoming,  Feb 1:- At Reece's Corner on Tuesday the death of  Richard Bryson occurred suddenly after a heart attack. Mr. Bryson was in his 76th year. His  entire life had been spent around the "Corner". He is  survived by  his wife Mary Ellen, and two step-daughters, Mrs. George  Tesky, of  Sarnia and Mrs. Lorne Stretch, of Port Huron, also a sister  Mrs. Frank  Maidment, of Sarnia and a brother, Benjamin Bryson, of  Reece's Corner. The  remains  are resting at the family  residence,  No.21  highway, Reece's Corner, until Friday when the funeral will be held from  the McKay and White funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be made in the Wyoming cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Bryson, lifetime resident at Reece's Corners, died yesterday  at  the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Teskey, Confederation Street, Sarnia. The body is at the McKay and White Funeral Home, where services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. with interment in Wyoming cemetery. Surviving  are two daughters, Mrs. Teskey of Sarnia and  Mrs.  Lorne Stretch of Port Huron, 2 brothers, Robert Lucas of Wyoming and  Samuel Lucas of Reece's Corners.

At  Sarnia  General Hospital on Tuesday 12 July 1977.  George  Henry Teskey,  age  82, beloved husband of Mary M. (Smith)  Teskey  of  558 Confederation  Street, father of W. H. (Jim) of Windsor and Wm. A.  of Sarnia, brother of Mrs. Telford (Muriel) Biehn and Charles of  Sarnia, Dr.  C.G. (Ted) of Kitchener and Dr. William L. of London. Six  grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Predeceased by a son Robert in 1924, brothers Alvin in 1967 and Dr. Stan in 1958. Funeral service will be held from the D. J. Robb Funeral Home Friday 15th  July  at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. Tuscan  Lodge  No.437  will conduct  a Memorial Service at the funeral home Thursday evening at  7 p.m. Sympathy  may  be  expressed through donations  to  the  Charity  of Choice. Friends will be received at the funeral home commencing Thursday afternoon.

MARY TESKEY

At St. Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia, on Thursday 29 November 1990, Mary Matilda  Teskey (Smith) age 90, of 558  Confederation  Street.  Dear mother  of William (Jim) and his wife Beryl of Windsor and William  L. McCormick  and  his wife Irene of Sarnia. Loving  grandmother  of  six grandchildren  and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by  several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband George Henry Teskey (1977), a son Robert and sister Clara Striech. Mrs.  Teskey was a long time member of Devine Street  United  Church and was an honorary member of the Order of the Eastern Star. At  her request there will be no visitation. Cremation.  A  memorial service  will  be held at Devine Street United Church  on  Thursday  6 December at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Sam Parker officiating.

A  memorial service for family and friends, celebrating the life  of Mary  Teskey,  was  held Thursday afternoon at  Devine  Street  United Church with Rev. Sam Parker officiating. Soloist Joan Houle sang "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "How Great Thou Art." Mrs.  Teskey,  who  died 29 November at St.  Joseph's  Hospital,  is survived by her children, William (Jim) Teskey and his wife Beryl, and William  L.  McCormick  and his wife Irene;  six grandchildren;  four great-grandchildren' several nieces and nephews.

William  (Jim)  Teskey, 77 years, passed away peacefully on  9  May 1997.  Beloved  husband of Beryl. Dearest father  of  Caren,  Cynthia (Cindy) and husband Roland Garant. Will  be  sadly missed by his grandchildren,  Melanie  and  husband Chris, Trevor and Crystal. Many cousins also survive. Visiting in the Walter D. Wyoming: July 8 - The funeral of Frank Misner, who died at his  home at Reece's Corner, on Saturday, was held from the family residence  on Monday afternoon. The  Rev.  T.E.  Meldrum, minister of the  Wyoming  Baptist  Church, conducted the services. The pallbearers were Jack Easelman, Albert and Herbert Shoff,  David O'Brian, John Bryson and Howard Bryson. Internment was made at Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.

MATILDA (LUCAS) MISNER

Wyoming:  March 24 - Following a lenghthy illness the death  occured today  of Matilda Lucas Misner, aged 75 years, widow of Frank  Misner, of  Plympton Township. She died at the summer cottage of  her  brother Samuel  Lucas. Married twice, she was predeceased  by  her  first husband, John Bryson,  of Reece's Corner, 17 years ago  and  by  Mr. Misner two years ago. Last fall her home at Reece's Corner was burned down and since  then she had been living at the summer home of her brother. She was born in Plympton Township and spent all her life there. Surviving  are one step - daughter, Mrs. Lavina Berdan, of  Wyoming, one  adopted daughter, Mrs. Frank McCormick, of Plympton,  a  stepson, John Bryson, of Reece's Corner, a sister, Mrs. R. Bryson, of Plympton, and 3 brothers, Thomas, Robert and Samuel Lucas of Plympton. The  funeral will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. from  her  residence, with the services being conducted by the Rev. T. E. Meldrum, of the Wyoming Baptist Church. Interment will be at Wyoming cemetary.

At her home RR 2 Wyoming, Wednesday 12 November, Mrs. Laura (Bryson) McCormick, beloved wife of Frank McCormick in her 63rd year. Resting  at McKay and White Funeral Home, Wyoming, until  Sunday  15 Nov where funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery.

ROBERT LUCAS

Robert  Lucas, 84, died last night at his residence in Wyoming  following a lengthly illness. The  body  is  at the McKay and White Funeral  Home,  Wyoming  until Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when services will be held. The  Rev. F.W. Motlon, minister of St. John's Anglican Church,  Wyoming will officiate. Surviving  besides  his wife, the former Jessie Gould,  are  a  son, Arthur of Forest and two grandchildren, Evelyn and Joan Lucas also of Forest and a brother Samuel of Reece's Corners. Mr. Lucas a retired farmer was born at Reece's Corners, London Road, the  son  of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lucas. The  deceased  was  a member of St. John's Church, Wyoming. Interment will be in the Wyoming Cemetery.

JESSIE LUCAS

Mrs.  Jessie Lucas, 82 of Wyoming died in Sarnia  General  Hospital, Monday after a long illness. She  was born on the 12th Line of Enniskillen Township the  daughter of  the late Mr. and Mrs. James Gould. Her husband Robert  Lucas  died eight years ago. Surviving  is a son Arthur of Forest: two grandchildren and a  great grandchild: a sister Mrs. Florence Egerter of Niagara Falls, N.Y. Mrs.  and Mrs. Lucas farmed in the Reece's Corners district  for  60 years prior to moving to Wyoming 15 years ago. Funeral  services will be held from McKay and White  Funeral  Home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev Stanley Upligrove of St. John's  Anglican Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery.

HELEN (GIBBS) LUCAS

At  St.  Joseph's Hospital on the 7th January  1983,  Helen  (Gibbs) Lucas of 99 King Street, Forest, aged 65 years.

SAMUEL LUCAS

Well  known  naturalist  and farmer Samuel "FOX"  Lucas  a  lifetime resident near Reece's Corners died Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital. For a number of years he maintained a small zoo and fox farm on  his property. He  was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lucas and  was  the last of a family of ten children. He  is  survived by his wife the former Lavina Jackson.  He  had  no family, but raised several nieces and nephews who also survive. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at McKay and White Funeral Home, Wyoming with interment in the Wyoming Cemetery.

Funeral  service for Mrs. Lavina (Vinie) Lucas, of Wyoming  formerly of Reece's Corners, was held Monday from McKay and White Funeral Home, Wyoming,  She was the widow of Samuel Lucas and was the former  Lavina Jackson.
Pallbearers  were George Fleming, John Griffith, Ivan Tulock,  Allen Walker,  William  Jackson and Gerald Smith. Flowerbearers  were  Wayne Fairman, Cecil Donald, Alfred Hayes, Ed Jones and Ken Kennedy. Surviving  are two sisters Mrs. Samuel Donald of Oil  Springs,  Mrs. Eugene Fairman of Detroit, two brothers, Berbert Jackson of Hollywood, Fla., and Alexander Jackson of Penticton, B.C., and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lucas died Friday in St. Joseph's Hospital.

The death of Julia Teresa Callahan, beloved wife of John Anderson, Queen Street, occurred on Monday in her 63rd year. Deceased had been a sufferer from heart trouble for the past eight years and just prior to her death had shown symptoms of pneumonia. Deceased was born in Adelaide village and was married to her bereaved husband, John W. Anderson in 1889. The young couple resided in Simcoe for twenty- two years and took up their residence in Watford, where they remained for four years, in 1911. Prior to coming to Petrolea two years ago, they resided on a farm adjoining Wyoming for six years. Besides her husband deceased is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Catherine Callahan, who is 83 years of age and resides in Petrolea with her daughter, Mrs. W. Wilson, Crescent Park, five brothers; William of the 10th line; Terrance, in Adelaide; Thomas and James in Watford; Frances in Duluth; and six sisters, Mrs. E. Sickles, Flint, Mich.; Mrs. J. Getty, Duluth, Minn.; Miss Lucy Callahan, Detroit; Mrs. J. Welch, London Rd.; Mrs. W. WIlson, Petrolea, and Mrs. Jos. Johnston, Detroit. The funeral was held in Monday morning, Rev. Fr. Campeau conducting service in St. Phillip's Church. Interment was made in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wyoming, the pallbearers being Messrs. John Hoban, D. McLachlan, R. Brooks, A.A. Death came with startling suddeness into the home of Mr. & Mrs. John Anderson of Warwick on Sunday, Feb. 12th. and took from them their only child, Marie. She had only been sick a few days, death being due to brain fever. Dr. Eckel of Adelaide, and Dr. Newell of Watford were called, but could not save her. When it was known Marie was dead, school was dismissed, the flag was hung at 1/2 mast and the trustees, teacher and children came in a body to show their sympathy and respect. The funeral took place on Tuesday, to the Adelaide church were high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Quinlan, interment being made at the R.C. cemetery in Adelaide Village.

MRS. TERRANCE CALLAHAN

The death of Mrs. Terrance Callahan, relict of the late Terrance Callahan, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Wilson, Crescent Park, Petrolia, early on Wednesday morning, Jan. 30th, in her 89th year. Mrs. Callahan suffered a stroke about two weeks before which was the cause of her death. She was born in Meceina, New York State, on June 25, 1840 and the family moved to Adelaide Village in 1857. In 1859 she was married in Port Huron to Terrance Callahan and to this union were born seven daughters and five sons. The family resided in Adelaide Village for many years and aided materially in erecting St. Patrick's R. C. Church in the village. Deceased was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church and a devoted worker in the church organizations. In 1901 she came to Petrolia to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Wilson, with whom she has since resided. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. John Anderson, having predeceased her, she is survived by six daughters, Mrs. E. Sickles, Flint, Mich.; Mrs. J. Getty, Duluth, Minn.; Miss Lucy, Detroit ; Mrs. J. Walsh, Wyoming; Mrs. Wm. Wilson, Petrolia; Mrs. Jas. Johnston, Detroit and five sons, William of Petrolia; Terrance of Adelaide; Thomas of Watford; Frank of Detroit and James of Watford. Thirty seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a sister, Miss Margaret Dowling of Strathroy also survive. The funeral was conducted at Adelaide Village, Friday morning. Requiem high mass was sung by Rev. Father Young, of Strathroy, in St. Patrick's Church at 10:30 a.m. and interment made in St. Patrick's cemetery, Adelaide. The pallbearers were four sons, William, Terrance, Thomas and Frank, her son-in-law J. Johnston and grandson E.A. Smith.

HENRIETTA (Callahan) WILSON

A highly respected resident of Petrolia died at her home, Crescent Park, on Sunday last, when death came to Mrs. William Wilson, in her 79th year. Death followed an illness of several months which she bore with fortitude and maintained a cheerful attitude with friends, nurses and family. The late Mrs. Wilson, whose maiden name was Henrietta Callaghan, was born in Adelaide, Middlesex County, on February 16th, 1873, a daughter of the late Terrence and Catharine Callaghan. She spent her early life at Adelaide, and as a young woman, married William Wilson, an expert marble cutter. They spent a few years in Strathroy and Forest before coming to Petrolia more than fifty years ago. Mr. Wilson conducted his own business in town until his death in 1922. Throughout her residence here Mrs. Wilson was best known for her cheerful neighborliness and one who would always give freely of her time to help a neighbor or assist a good cause. Besides a wide circle of friends of her own generation, she was loved and admired by the children and young people, many of whom came to her as friend or adviser. In religion she was a member of St. Philip's Roman Catholic Church and was faithful to her church and its' organizations. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and past president of the group. Surviving are two daughters (Lillian) Mrs. Bryce Gray, of Detroit and (Gertrude) Mrs. E.A. Smith of town. There are also three grandchildren and one great grandchild and four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Joseph Johnston, Detroit: Miss Lucy Callaghan, Detroit: Mrs. Catharine Getty, of Duluth: Mrs. John Walsh of Petrolia: Mr. Thomas Callaghan and James Callaghan, of Watford. Prayers were said at the Richmond funeral home on Tuesday evening by the members of the Catholic Women's League and were attended by a large number of friends and relatives, while a profusion of floral tributes paid mute homage to the high esteem in which Mrs. Wilson was held. Funeral services were held in St. Philip's Church on Wednesday morning when Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr. F.S. Mulkern. Interment was at Hillsdale Cemetery, the pall bearers being Messrs. C.A. Wilson, Vincent Norwood, A.E. Tomlinson, Dr. D.W. Duncan, Dave Harding, Bloss Ellacott, Allan Walsh and Frank Gallivan. WILLIAM WILSON

The death of William Wilson, Petrolia's well known marble dealer, occurred at his residence, Crescent Park on Monday afternoon after an illness extending over eight months. Mr. Wilson was born in Belfast, Ireland on May 23, 1869, and with his parents came to Canada when seven years of age. The family located in Goderich where the subject of this sketch received his schooling and learned the trade of granite and marble cutting at which business he was an expert. He then went into business in Goderich on his own account but disposed of it in 1895 and went to Strathroy where on April 8, 1896, he married Henrietta Marie Callahan. In 1901 he came to Petrolia and purchased the marble business here which he successfully conducted until his death. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Miss Lillian Mae and Mrs. Earl Smith, both of Petrolia and one brother, David, of Goderich. Deceased was Conservative in politics and in religion was a Presbyterian. He was also a member of the Masonic order. The funeral which was conducted under Masonic auspices was held yesterday afternoon to Hillsdale cemetery. The Rev. J.J. Monds conducted the services and the pall bearers were Bros. Wm. Thompson, Jas. Wilson, R. Strauss, Robt. S. Jackson, T. Gallivan and D. McLachlan. Among those from out-of-town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Sickles, Flint; Mr. And Mrs. J. The funeral of Miss Ellen Margaret Walsh, aged 60 years, of this village, was held yesterday at 10 a.m., from St. Philip's Roman Catholic Church, Petrolia. She died on Saturday morning at her home here. Miss Walsh was born at Cleaden, N.Y. and moved when a child to Mooretown, later coming to Oil Springs. She was the daughter of Michael Walsh and Margaret Powers. Surviving her are one brother, Michael and one sister, Mary, both of Oil Springs. A short service was held on Sunday evening at the home here. The Rev. Father P.J. Harrigan, of Petrolia, officiated and the pallbearers were Fred Laner, Henry Laner, William Mackesy, Edward Ryan, William Ryan, C.E. Hillman. Interment was at Mount Calvary cemetery, Wyoming. In Sarnia Township, on Thursday, March 23, 1905, Robert S. Watson, aged 52 years. Warwick - Another old resident of the Main Road passed away on Tuesday morning of last week in the person of Jane, relict of the late Francis Iles in her 69th year. Deceased had not been in good health for some time, but was able to be around the house, and was arranging to go to Watford when she suddenly took a relapse that ended in her death. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon to the Arkona cemetery and was conducted by Rev. W.M. Shore. Two sons, Andrew and George, and three daughters, Mrs S. Dodds, Mrs D. The funeral was held yesterday of Mrs. Alice Allan, wife of Thomas Allan, of St. Clair, Michigan, and a former resident of Lambton County, who died at her home in St. Clair on Friday, at the age of 79. The service was conducted by the Rev. H. Pegg, of St. Clair Baptist Church, at D.J. Robb's funeral home. Duets, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "It is Well with My Soul", were sung by the Rev. The funeral of the late Alex. Maidment took place on Friday from his late residence, 204 Parker street, at 11:30 a.m., to the Free Methodist church, where services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Allen, after which the remains were sent to Forest by Undertakers Phippen & Simpson for interment in Beechwood cemetery. The church was filled with sympathizing friends. A widow and three small children are left to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father.

The funeral of one of Warwick township's most highly respected farmers was held Monday afternoon when Samuel Cameron was buried in Watford cemetery. A service was held at his late residence on lot 24, concession 8, S.E.R., at 1;30, and was conducted by Rev. John P. Davis, Mr. Cameron was in his 65th year and had been in poor health for some time. Pansy Smale, wife of Robert W. Ward, resident of Oil Springs District die in St. Josephs Hospital, London, on Tuesday,Dec. 19, in her 44th year. She was the daughter of Mrs. Erie Smale and the late James Smale.  On Sept. 10 1924, she married Robert William Ward of Oil Springs. Following their marriage, they settled on 21 sideroad, Enniskillen and resided their ever since.  She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Robert Ward, one daughter Mrs.
Sidney McLean(Mary), of Oil Springs; three sons ,James of Oil Springs; Wilfred, R.C.A.F., Camp Borden, and Allan, at Home; three Grandchildren, Bobby and Wesly McLean and Johnny Ward, all of Oil Springs; her mother, Mrs. Erie Smale of Oil Springs, and four brothers, Lancelot, Wilfred, and Stanely of Oil Springs, and Edger of Oakdale.  The funeral was held from her home where a short service was held . The procession proceeded to the Oakdale United Church where services where conducted by the Pastor Rev. J. T. White. A beautiful solo"Beyond the Sunset" was sung by Mrs. Reg Wellwood, and the choir of Oakdale United Church sang. Pall bearers were George Watson. One of the pioneer residents of the village passed away early Saturday morning in the person of Joseph Johnson, aged 89 years. For some months he had been in failing health but having had a strong constitution was able to go around the house until about a week ago when he was confined to bed.Mr Johnson was a member of the Anglican faith. During his active years he was a farmer and a carpenter and many a building in the village is of his construction. He is survived by his wife and ten children: Mrs Barrett and Mrs Daley of Detroit, Mrs Cagg of Oklahoma, Mrs John McPhedran of Petrolia, Mrs jas Crawford and Mrs W G Anderson of Camlachie, and Thomas of petrolia, William of Camlachie, and Fred in the Canadian west.Funeral will take place from the residence to Errol cemetery on Monday afternoon. Norma Mae (Storey) Douglas, Born Sept. 4, 1927 in Sarnia, Ont. passed away Jan. 2, 2000 at the age of 72 at the Sarnia General Hospital. Wife of Bruce Douglas of Wyoming, mother of James (Jim) and Brian of Sarnia, sister of Dorothy (Storey)Ferguson of Sarnia and Allan Storey of Corunna. Funeral for Berthena (Auld) Graham, 65, of Sarnia, was held 1 August at Smith Funeral Home, with Rev. Christine Jerrett Officiating. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery. WILLIAM BRERETON
At his home in Warwick township on Thursday 23 April William Brereton, breathed his last at the age of 71 years and 5 months. Until quite recently the deceased, despite his years, was quite hale, but was stricken with apoplexy and succumbed to its effects. Mr. Brereton was born in King's County Ireland, and came to Canada with his parents when 15 years old. They settled in Montreal and engaged in business for 5 years, moving to Quebec City. Here he met and married Margaret Dowd his widow. They went to Warwick in 1870. A family of 8 children; three boys and five girls blessed their union, all of whom are living. The boys are; William in the Northwest; Fred, 2 con Plympton and John of Warwick. the girls: Mrs. William Hayward and Mrs. McCormick of Plympton; Mrs. William Culbert and Mrs. Parker of Wyoming and Miss Maggie at home. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery.

MARGARET (Dowd) BRERETON
There passed away after a lingering illness on Saturday 8 May 1920, Margaret Dowd, widow of the late William Brereton, one of Warwick's oldest residents. She was born in 1839 during the voyage of her parents from Ireland to Canada. Her parents settled in Quebec and in 1784 Mr. and Mrs. Brereton moved to their homestead in Warwick where they spent their lives until claimed by death. Her husband predeceased her seventeen years ago. Of a family of eight, seven are left to mourn her loss; Frederick B; Mrs. William Cutbert; Mrs. William Hayward; Mrs. William McCormick and William all of Plympton; Margaret and John at home and Mrs. Parker (deceased). The funeral service was held on the 10 May and interment at Wyoming Cemetery.  (Rest is unreadable).

Russell Anderson of Toronto; Hyman of Sarnia; Calvert of Oil City; Hazen of North Surrey, B.C. and Crossley of Sarnia. Another brother Alton predeceased. Interment was in Wyoming Cemetery. Wyoming 24 March: The death occurred following a sudden heart attack yesterday afternoon of Frederick Brereton, Plympton Township farmer. Mr. Brereton had been in fairly good health and his death came as a sudden shock to his family and friends. He resided on Lot 28, Concession 2, Plympton Township. Wyoming 22 July 1947: Effie Brereton, aged 63, widow of William T. Brereton died this morning at the home of her son William, in Ofrest. She was born in Prince Edward Island, the daughter of Allan Matheson and Christina McInnis. Surviving are her mother, a daughter Mrs. C. Moffatt of Warwick Township; three sons; William of Forest; Gordon of Calgary and Elroy of Sarnia; two brothers John Mateson of Spokane, Wash., and Samuel of Everett, Wash. There are also two grandchildren. The deceased was a member of Calvary United Church, second line of Plympton. The body is at the McKay and White Funeral Home, Wyoming from where the funeral will be held at 2.30 p.m. Thursday the Rev. Ralph Wright will officiate. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery.

Mr. Brereton had been in poor health for the last three years. He was born in Warwick Township and had lived in Plympton all his life and he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Brereton. He Is survived by his wife who before her marriage was Effie Mary Matheson, three sons, William of Forest, Gordon of Sarnia and Elroy at home: a daughter, Mrs. Cecil Moffatt and a brother, John Robert of the 3rd concession of Plympton. A daughter, Mrs. Keith Randall. predeceased him three years ago. He was also predeceased by five sisters and one brother. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. The funeral will be helel Wednesday from the McKay and White Funeral Home at 2.30 p. m. The Rev. M.. Saunders of Wyoming Baptist Church will be in charge. Interment will take place in Wyoming cemetery.

Surviving are four daughters; Mrs. Daniel Saunders of Brooke; Mrs. John Saunders of London; Mrs. Floyd Smith of Port Huron, Mich and Mrs. Charles McPherson of Warwick; three sons, Joseph and James 6th line north Warwick and George of Detroit, Mich. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon, with service at the home of his son Joseph, lot 28 con 6 N.E.R. and interment in Arkona Cemetery.

URSULA ANNE (Clement) BUTLER
The death occurred at her home in Oil Springs this morning of Ursula Anne Butler, widow of the late William Butler at the age of 84 years. The deceased was born in the village of Virgil, near Niagara Falls, in the County of Lincoln. She was the youngest of a family of 14 of the late Col. and Mrs. Clement who were descendents of United Empire Loyalist stock. Her father was a Colonel in the old Niagara Militia. She came to Sarnia in 1874 where for 20 years she resided at the corner of Brock and Talfourd streets, later removing to Oil Springs where she lived until her death. She is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Robert McLaren of Oil Springs; Mrs. D. McCurtie of Sauguel, Calif; Mrs. E. Hanna of Stettler, Alta and four sons; William and Frank of Sarnia and George and Joseph of Oil Springs. Her husband predeceased her forty years ago. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

The death occurred in Montreal, Que., on Saturday night 30 April of Mrs. King, relict of the late James King of this town. Mrs King was for many years a respected resident of this town and was well known to many of our older citizens. She was, during her residence in Sarnia a consistent member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Her demise will come as a sudden shock to her many friends and the bereaved family will have the sympathy of all. The remains will leave Montreal this evening and arrive tomorrow afternoon. The funeral will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 4 o'clock from Springbank the residence of Mrs. Charles Mackenzie. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery.  (Husband James also in Lakeview 1840-1902).

Dear mother of   Norman and his wife Marybelle of Edys Mills, Jean Paul and his wife Shirley of Watford, Rene and his wife Patricia of Belle River, Rosemay and her husband Vern Drouillard of Windsor, Stella Sitzes, Anita Marie Moran, Andrew, and Leona Lira all of Sarnia. Will be greatly missed by Drew Caldwell. Dear grandmother of 27 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Sister of Rita Tremblay and Alphonse Robert both of Tilbury and Clara Tellier of Stoney Point. Predeceased by three brothers. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, October 4, 1993 at 12 noon at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 895 Champlain Rd., Sarnia. There will be no funeral home visitation. Cremation has taken place. The funeral of Mrs. Laura Hay King, wife of Burdett King, was held from the family residence, lot 23 sixth concession south on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. The service was conducted by the Rev. Harold Curry of St. Andrew's Church, Watford and interment was at St. James Church Cemetery Brooke Township. Mrs. King died in Strathroy hospital on Wednesday evening 31 October. She had been in ill health for several years, but was seriously ill during the past two weeks. Mrs. King was in her 67 year. She was born in Napier district and since her marriage had resideded for the past 36 years on the 6th line Warwick, east of Watford. Surviving are her husband and two sone Ivan and Ross, of Warwick; one sister and one brother, Mrs. Neville McLean of Kerrwood and Alex Hay on the family homestead at Napier.

Burdett King of  Warwick Township  passed away in Sarnia  General Hospital recently after a. short illness. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs.  Robert King, he farmed all his lifetime. Surviving are two sons Ivan and Ross King of Warwick  and one grandson. The body rested at the Harper Funeral Home. from where the services were conducted, The Rev. Clarence Beacom of Dulton, a former minister and student Minister Ewart Clark of St. Andrews United Churdh officiated. Interment was in St. James Church Cemetery, Brooke. Pallbearers were Joe Ruth,  Clare Logan, Harold Greer,  Herbert Cran, Ernest Cowan and Kenneth Sifton. Flowerbearers  were Lloyd Davidson, John Cran, Gordon Greer and John Watt.

ISAAC JAMES HASTINGS
One of Watford's pioneer business men Isaac James Hastings, died suddenly in his 81st year. A son of the late Joseph Hastings  he had been a  resident of Watford for 50 years. In 1887 he started making wagons and sleighs in Hastville on the site of his father's saw mill.   In 1896 an addition was made to the factory and the business was moved to Enniskillen. The following year the business was expanded to include Watford and the Enniskillen factory continued in operation until 1899. In that year the buildinag was sold and the machinery moved to Watford where it was in continuous operation until 1943. Due to ill health Mr., Hastings sold his business and retired.  He was an active Anglican Churh  workers and a life-long Orangeman. He is survived by his   wife Rebecca King, one son, Melvin of  Watford; one  daughter, Mrs. Frank Way, South Pasadena, California; one sister  Mrs. Charles Lorwy of Aylmer.  The funeral will be held from the family residence at 3 p.m. Wednesday,  June. 4. Rev. J. Graham will conduct the service and interment will be in St. James' Anglican cemetery, Brooke Township.

Alvin King of RR3 Watford, passed away in University Hospital, London on Sunday 7 November 1976 in his 80th year. He is survived by a brother George of Brooke Township and two brothers predeceased him Clayton and Harold. Mrs. Isaac Hastings, a well known Watford resident died on Sunday 13 June. She was the former Rebecca King, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James King of Brooke township. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Isaac Hastings who died in the Parker Nursing Home in her 80th year. Mrs. Hastings was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James King, Brooke Township and has lived her entire lifetime in the community. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. F. Way of Los Angeles, California; one son Melvin at home; one sister, Mrs. Mary Moody of Vancouver, B.C. and three brothers, Roland of Watford, Albert of Calgary and Arthur of Liberty, Sask.
